Everton push forward and come so close to taking the lead as Cahill strikes the foot of the post with a shot from the edge of the area. However, the ball rebounds out for Yakubu, who tracks inside before unleashing an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net and beyond Begovic from six yards out.

Stoke growing in confidence, as Tuncay gets behind the Everton backline but his run is snuffed out. David Moyes' men then break with Pienaar who feeds Heitinga, and then lays off the ball for Baines who is felled in the box but no penalty is awarded. Stoke recover and reform their resilient backline.
