Paris 2024 Olympic Games: Is there a golden boot award in the football tournaments? Who were the top scorers?

A golden boot is usually handed out to the top scorer of a football tournament, but there is no such award at the Olympic Games. Morocco's Soufiane Rahimi is the men's top scorer with an astounding eight goals, two more than his nearest rival. Marie-Antoinette Katoto is the women's top scorer, but she could be caught by a number of stars who are going for gold on Saturday.

There have been goals galore in both football tournaments at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
For that reason, it may surprise some to hear there will be no official golden boot prize given to the two top scorers.
There has also never been a player of the tournament award at the Games either, despite it being a common occurrence in other international tournaments.
Spain defeated France 5-3 after extra time in a heart racing men's final and the USA beat Brazil 1-0 in the women's, but who were the two top scorers?

Who is the leading scorer in the men's tournament?

Morocco's Soufiane Rahimi found the back of the net eight times on his way to finishing the tournament as top scorer.
The Al Ain forward scored in all of Morocco's matches at Paris 2024, including a brace in their first game against one of the favourites, Argentina.
Two of his eight goals came in his side's emphatic 6-0 win against Egypt in the bronze medal match.
Rahimi also put Morocco ahead against Spain in the semi-final, before his side succumbed to a late goal from Juanlu Sanchez, as Spain completed a late comeback.
Spain's young superstar Fermin Lopez was his closest rival after finishing the tournament with six goals.
Lopez scored twice as Spain triumphed against France in the gold medal match.
He also produced the equaliser in Spain's comeback win against Morocco in the semi-final.
Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta finished third in the rankings, with his last-minute equaliser in normal time of the gold medal match taking his tally up to five.
Mateta has scored all five goals in his last four games, including a brace in France's extra-time victory over Egypt in the semi-finals.
The forward has been linking up brilliantly with former Eagles teammate Michael Olise for France.
Olise would be a heavy favourite for player of the tournament if there was such an award.
The Bayern Munich winger has been excellent for Thierry Henry's side, scoring twice and picking up five assists.

Who is the leading scorer in the women's tournament?

France's Marie-Antoinette Katoto finished the women's tournament as top scorer, leading the way with five goals.
However, her heroics on home soil was not enough to stop the French from falling to defeat against silver medalists Brazil in the quarter-finals.
Barbra Banda of Zambia and the USA's Mallory Swanson both finished the tournament four goals to their name.
Zambia were eliminated in the group stages, but Banda scored a hat-trick against Australia before producing another fine finish against Germany.
Swanson took her tally for the tournament up to four with the winning goal in the gold medal match against Brazil.
Sophia Smith and Trinity Rodman both scored three goals during the tournament.
Germany's Lea Schuller also scored three goals.
