Portland Timbers exploit early error to beat Columbus Crew in MLS Cup final
ByTNT Sports
Portland Timbers won the MLS Cup final 2-1 against Columbus Crew after scoring the quickest ever goal in the competition’s history.
Diego Valeri scored after only 27 seconds for the Western Conference champions as he exploited a horrendous error from goalkeeper Steve Clarke.
Portland doubled their lead after only seven minutes when Rodney Wallace scored from a cross, although there was controversy as the ball clearly went out in the build-up to the goal, only to be missed by the officials.
Kei Kamara hit back for the home side though, scoring his 25th goal of the season when exploiting some more awful goalkeeping to get Columbus back in the game.
But Portland held on in a chaotic second half to lift the trophy.
