French police reported that Davies (pictured) has been fined ÂŁ650 and had his driving licence suspended for speeding, but further charges could be brought over claims that the American's team-mate Faty was actually driving at the time.
French newspaper Le Progres has reported that the pair could face six months in prison and fines of up to ÂŁ7,000 each for lying to police, though a French police official has stated that neither player has yet officially contradicted the original version of events to police.
Davies, who almost died in a high-speed smash last year, was in his Audi Q7 with team-mate Jacques Faty doing 125mph when they were stopped by police in the French region of Jura on October 3.
The players are reported to have switched places after pulling over because Senegal international Faty thought he was still suspended over a previous infraction, and that Davies's US nationality might mean he got into less trouble.
Davies, 24, suffered two broken bones in his right leg, a broken and dislocated left elbow, a broken nose, forehead and eye socket, a ruptured bladder and bleeding on the brain in a crash in the US last October which left a fellow passenger dead.
He returned to training in March but has not played for either Sochaux or the USA since.
