Ahn has spent the last three seasons in Japan, but his current deal with J-League champions Yokohama F-Marinos expired last month.
The 29-year-old, who helped co-hosts South Korea reach the 2002 World Cup semi-finals and has huge marketing power in Asia, left for Paris at the weekend to undergo a medical.
He signed for Japan's Shimizu S-Pulse after the last World Cup following an acrimonious split with Italian club Perugia and joined Yokohama last year.
Ahn scored the golden goal that knocked Italy out of the World Cup and Perugia president Luciano Gaucci controversially fired the player in protest.
Ahn's spell in Japan was hampered by injury but he still managed 30 goals in 72 J-League appearances.
