HALF TIME: Huesca 0-0 Real Madrid. No breakthrough in the first half, although Benzema and Vinicius have both had chances to find the back of the net for the visitors.

Fernandez makes the save! Benzema caught the strike well and the Huesca goalkeeper was called into action to push away a low strike from the Real Madrid centre forward!

While Vinicius has done some peculiar stuff in this first half so far, he does look the most likely to make something happen for Real Madrid. The Brazilian winger is that sort of player.

Modric is currently in the form of his life, but the Croatian midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season. However, there is belief the former Spurs man will put pen to paper on a new deal.

There is a sense that this Real Madrid squad is on the brink of a generational transition, but Zidane continues to be faithful to his old favourites. The likes of Casemiro, Kroos and Modric.

Chipped wide! Vinicius was played in behind by Kroos, but the Brazilian clips his shot wide of the far post when he might have done better. The angle was tight for him, though.

PICTURE: No early breakthrough

One of the reasons behind Real Madrid’s colossal debt is the redevelopment of the Santiago Bernabeu. This is a huge project that is currently under way, hence why Zidane’s side are playing home games at their training ground.

Of course, Real Madrid aren’t the only big Spanish club with a lot of debt at the moment. Atletico Madrid and Barcelona have similar problems with the latter’s debt even more than that of their rivals.

Two weeks ago Real Madrid revealed at their AGM that their total debt now amounts to €901 million. This is quite concerning. The capital giants need to tighten their belts over the next few years.

Barcelona have had their own struggles this season, but there is a sense that Ronald Koeman’s side are starting to find some momentum. Can Real Madrid keep up with their Catalan rivals?

If Real Madrid are to stand any chance of catching Atletico Madrid at the top of La Liga, they must win this afternoon. They simply can’t afford to fall any further behind their capital rivals.
