Is no Varane a good thing for Real?!

Looking at replays of that disallowed goal, it seems Benzema's shoulder was just offside. Huge let-off for Eibar, though...

Eibar are all over the place here, and aren't doing themselves any favours with some loose passes, against a Real side which looks bang up for this.

DISALLOWED GOAL! Marcelo puts in a lovely ball from the left which is put away from Benzema, but the Real striker is just offside and the goal is disallowed.

CHANCE! Benzema should do better here. Pozo plays a blind backpass and plays in the Frenchman, who takes too much time to get his shot, with Dmitrovic getting down well to stick out a hand and force a corner. Good save from the Eibar keeper, and nothing comes of the corner.

CHANCE! First shot on goal comes from the visitors! Pape Diop tries his luck from distance and Courtois palms the ball away.

Tasty challenge from Casemiro on Kike early on, which the Brazilian doesn't get away with.

KICK-OFF! We're underway at what is effectively Real's training ground, where they've played since the start of the pandemic.

The teams are out at Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano, led out by Real's stand-in captain Marcelo.

This is Zidane’s 250th game in charge of Real, across two spells. Two La Liga titles, three Champions Leagues, two UEFA Super Cups, two FIFA Club World Cups - not bad, eh?

89 years ago to the day, Real won their first La Liga title…it is now 34 and counting…

Is France's loss Real's gain? Benzema continues to be overlooked for his country, despite remaining arguably their most prolific option - and it baffles Zidane.

10 minutes until kick-off in Madrid, can Eibar pull off an upset?
15:01
Stop Benzema, stop the goals? The French striker is on a real hot streak, with eight goals in his last six matches. Beyond that, though, there is a huge drop down to the next top scorer. Defensive midfielder Casemiro’s the unlikely next man in the La Liga goal standings for Real, with five.

Final preparations for Thibaut Courtois, who is fit despite missing Belgium's World Cup qualifier with Belarus due to a shoulder problem...he probably could have played anyway, as his country romped to an 8-0 win.

Real ended Eibar’s best run of the season in December, putting a stop to six games unbeaten with a 3-1 victory in the Basque Country, thanks to goals from Karim Benzema, Luka Modric and Lucas Vazquez.
14:47
In contrast, Eibar are on a rotten run. Jose Luis Mendilibar’s team have one win from their last 17 matches in all competitions, and that was back on January 3. They are at real risk of ending a seven year stay in the top flight, but their position is in no way disastrous. Realistically, any team from 13th to 20th are in danger of the drop.

A dodgy November and early December is what has really damaged Real’s title defence, but since February, Los Blancos have been in impressive form, remaining unbeaten in all competitions - 10 matches in total. They signed off before the international break with a 3-1 victory at Celta Vigo.

No Sergio Ramos for Real, who is out for while with a calf injury. The captain’s running out of time to earn a new contract - should he want to extend his time at the club past the summer, that is…
