This match has gone back and forth in terms of momentum. Now it's Atletico Madrid that are controlling the ball and look to be the team on top. They are playing some nice stuff.

Costa isn't a centre forward in the traditional sense. He doesn't score many goals for Atletico Madrid. Instead, Simeone wants him to be the one his teammates play off as the frontman.

Not far wide! That's the closest Atletico Madrid have come to taking the lead. Saul and Costa played a nice one-two just inside the box, but the former puts his low effort just wide of the far post.

That was better from Atletico Madrid in terms of their pressing game. Felix won the ball high up the pitch, but then Thomas blasts his effort miles over the bar when he should have done better.

Good cross! Cheryshev gets a dangerous delivery into the Atletico Madrid box. However, there was nobody at the back post attacking the ball and the hosts can clear it.

This match is coming to the boil nicely. Valencia are starting to grow in confidence and are now taking the game to Atletico Madrid. A number of crosses have been repelled by the hosts.

Clever corner kick! That was a brilliant set piece from Valencia with the pass played to Coquelin just inside the box, but the former Arsenal midfielder puts his shot well over the crossbar.

Thomas has probably been Atletico Madrid's best player so far this season. He is showing up both Koke and Saul whose development has stagnated in the past year or two.

Some handbags between Felix and Costa with the Valencia defender making the point that the Portuguese teenager was far too keen to win the ball back. The referee agrees. Freekick.

Felix started the season very well, but has fallen out of form in recent weeks. Atletico Madrid need their Portuguese teenager to rediscover his groove. He has so much potential.

The ball was clipped into Morata who was making a run into the penalty box. But Gabriel watched it all the way and did enough to clear the danger with his head. Good defending.

Saul has more than once spoken about how he doesn't like to play at left back, that he would rather play in midfield. Simeone has ignored those pleas for this match this afternoon.

Gomez is leading the line for Valencia this afternoon. The former Celta Vigo striker will be a handful for Atletico Madrid's centre backs. He knows the route to goal, that's for sure.

Atletico Madrid started the match the better of the two teams, but Valencia are now taking the opportunity to knock the ball around the middle of the pitch to get a grip of things.

Still trying to work out this system from Simeone. Is this a back three for Atletico Madrid this afternoon? Is Saul playing on the left side again? We'll get back to you...
