Luis Suarez netted a hat-trick as Barcelona piled more misery on Real Madrid and under-pressure manager Julen Lopetegui with a 5-1 Clasico win.
The Catalans were without Lionel Messi who suffered a fractured arm in a win over Sevilla last week, but Barca still had too much for a Real Madrid side who have now lost five of their last seven matches in all competitions.
Philippe Coutinho opened the scoring after just 11 minutes, finishing into the gaping net after good work from the rampant Jordi Alba down the left side. The advantage was doubled on the half-hour mark when VAR was used to award the hosts a spot kick, with Suarez converting.
Real Madrid mounted something of a comeback at the start of the second half as Marcelo clawed one back and Luka Modric struck the post. But that only prodded Barcelona back into life, with the two-goal cushion re-established through a stunning Suarez header.
Suarez secured his hat-trick with a chipped finish over the desperate Thibaut Courtois, with Arturo Vidal coming off the bench to complete the scoring and give Barcelona a comprehensive Clasico win. It seems unlikely that Lopetegui will survive this.

TALKING POINT - El Clasico humiliation underlined just how dysfunctional Real Madrid have become

If this was to be Lopetegui’s final match in charge of Real Madrid, it was some way to go out. The visitors to the Camp Nou look flustered from start to finish (perhaps with the exception of a spell at the start of the second half), showing little in the way of a game plan or organisation. Defeat was expected, but it was the manner of the defeat that was most startling. This was an ugly loss for Real Madrid and underlined just how dysfunctional they have become as a team and a club. Their season, at least their Liga title challenge, might be over already.

MAN OF THE MATCH - Luis Suarez (Barcelona)

With Messi out through injury Barcelona needed one of his supporting cast to stand up. Suarez answered the call. Alba and Coutinho were also impressive for the Catalans, but it was the Uruguayan striker who did the most damage to Real Madrid, bagging a hat trick, but also pushing and pulling them out of position in defence from start to finish. This was Suarez at his absolute best and underlined just how important he is to this Barca team.

KEY MOMENTS

11’ GOAL! Barcelona 1-0 Real Madrid: It’s an opener for Barca and it’s just too easy! Alba had so much space to gallop into, cutting the ball back to Coutinho from the byline. The Brazilian playmaker then had the simple task of finishing into the gaping net!
28’ Big penalty call! VAR! It's a risky challenge from Varane on Suarez, who goes down inside the penalty area. We're going to a VAR review. Barcelona certainly have a case here.
29’ PENALTY KICK TO BARCELONA! VAR has been used and indeed, the spot kick is awarded to Barca for a foul by Varane on Suarez.
30’ GOAL! Barcelona 2-0 Real Madrid: It was Suarez who was fouled and it's Suarez who converts the spot kick! Courtois went the right way, but the shot from the striker was right in the left-hand corner of the net and Barcelona have a two-goal cushion! Is there any way back for Real?
51’ GOAL! Barcelona 2-1 Real Madrid: Out of nowhere, Real Madrid have a way back into this game! Vazquez played in Isco at the byline, he squares for Marcelo, who takes the bouncing ball on his chest and slides a low finish into the back of the net! It's 2-1! Wow!

57’ Modric strikes the post! Inches away from a sensational equaliser for Real Madrid! The Croatian midfielder strikes it from the edge of the box, he beats Ter-Stegen, but doesn't beat the post!
60’ Now Suarez hits the post! So close to a third Barcelona goal. Roberto was in behind to get on the end of a Rakitic pass, he squared for Suarez, but his flicked finish hits the woodwork!
75’ GOAL! Barcelona 3-1 Real Madrid: Golazzzzzzzzooooo! What a goal from Suarez, who has restored Barcelona's two-goal cushion! A wonderful header from Suarez, who somehow manages to beat Courtois with an effort from about 12 yards out. How did he get the power on that?
83’ GOAL! Barcelona 4-1 Real Madrid: Game over! It's humiliation for Real Madrid! Ramos gave up the ball inside his own half, allowing Suarez to burst through on goal. His chipped finish over Courtois is the epitome of coolness. Barca are well out of sight now.
87’ GOAL! Barcelona 5-1 Real Madrid: It's FIVE! It's Vidal, who has found the net on hi Clasico debut! Dembele dribbled into the area and found the Chilean at the back post with a cross. He had the simple task of heading into the gaping net! A thumping!
