Alcacer will be disappointed that he didn't make more of an impression this evening. This was a chance for the striker to show what he can do, but he was extremely quiet over the whole.

MESSI SHOOTS AGAIN! This time the Barcelona number 10 cuts inside off the right side and fires a shot away at goal, but a deflection takes the pace out of the strike and the keeper saves.

Alcacer comes off for Barcelona and is replaced by Denis.

MESSI OFF THE WOODWORK AGAIN! Can you believe it? That's the third time that Messi has hit the post. He cracked a shot towards the Betis goal, but it comes bouncing off the left hand post.

Roberto has also impressed for Barcelona this evening. He played as the right back last season but looks to have been liberated by Semedo shifting into that role. He's now an advanced midfielder.

This Barcelona team still feels like it is in transition. As I said earlier this evening, they are expected to be busy in the transfer market over the next two weeks. Loads of money to be spent.

Of course, Real Madrid kick off their Liga season against Deportivo La Coruna later this evening, but Barcelona have put down a marker with this performance. Easy enough for them.

SO CLOSE TO BEING IN! Semedo once again does well to stride down the right side before slinging a low cross into the area looking for Alcacer, but Mani makes the interception.

BIG CHANCE FOR VIDAL! Messi slots through the right back, who tries to round the goalkeeper Adan, but the outstretched leg knocks the ball away and Messi can't finish the rebound.

Is it just me or does Messi seem to be in something of a sulk? The Argentine hasn't flashed a smile all night, despite this being a relatively good display from his team. Strange.

Deulofeu comes off to be replaced by Vidal, who will play just in front of Semedo.

WOW! That woul have been a sensational strike from Messi. From a tight angle the Argentine fires a shot at goal, with Adan beaten, but it flashes just over the target. Very close.

WASTE FROM NAHUEL! The Real Betis attacker did well to beat Umtiti to the ball, but he lashes at his strike and Ter Stegen simply watched the ball flash well over the Barcelona goal.

Barca are still trying to play their way through the Real Betis penalty area, which is packed with players. They should be trying to look to the wings more often than they are.
