That's it the final whistle - Real Madrid 3-0 Villarreal. A hard fought match by the visitors but one with really only one possible outcome from the opening goal. Real Madrid remain well in the title race.

Say what you like about Villarreal, but they're not giving up easily, and this is the most sustained period of pressure they've had in the whole game.

We've three minutes of added time to play here. How much more damage can Real inflict on their visitors?

Villarreal are going to try for a conciliation prize though, by the looks of things. After what I'm calling a sustained period of attack (by their standards in this game, anyway) they are awarded a free kick for a foul on Rodri. It sails into the palms of the keeper.

The weather has turned and it's hammering it down... perhaps symbolic of Villarreal's game this evening.

We've had some subs, by the way... for Real Madrid: ISco comes on for Kroos (73') and James Rodriguez for goal-scorer Modric (80'). For Villarreal, Rodri replaces Trigerous (73')

Bit of a LOL fest there - Ronaldo appears to be handed a shirt with someone else's name on it as he switches his ripped shirt. There is only one CR7, after all.

GOAL! Modric scores Real's third just moments after an offside flag denied them a good opportunity. He slides the ball in the net, cutting through the Villarreal defence from a Danilo cross.

I should probably also mention there's been another substitution for Villarreal - Baptistao has come on for Adrian.

Ronaldo could've made that score line higher still, but a moment's hesitation in front of the net costs him his goal.

GOAL! Lucas Vasquez scores with a beautiful strike from the edge of the box that blazes past the keeper.

Meanwhile, we've had a substitution - Samuel Garcia replaces Dos Santos for Villarreal.

Villarreal look really strong, defensively speaking, but you do wonder how long they can keep it up. With Real constantly on the attack it would really only take a moment's loss of concentration by the visitors.

Lovely block there by the Villarreal defence, followed by a save by Asenjo as Vasquez makes a low cross.

Ronaldo tries something a little more achievable and actually runs into the box with the ball this time, but he's challenged by Rukavina who brings him down. CR7 looks angry when he doesn't get the corner he's after.

Ronaldo again. WIth a long range shot again. It's well off target again.

Villarreal make a rare challenge for possession and charge on a counter attack, but it's all too easy for Real to shut them down and steal possession back.

We're back underway at the Bernabeu. No changes in the teams for the second half and it's all go already with a strike by Modric deflected to sail wide of the post.
