That was about as Atletico Madrid as it gets. They were some way below par this evening, with Rayo Vallecano having their chances to win the game, but Simeone's side are masters at the late breakthrough - as they showed here. What is it they say about the sign of champions, again?
FULL-TIME: Rayo Vallecano 0 Atletico Madrid 2.
The complexion of this match completely changed in the space of just a couple minutes. Atletico Madrid get better as games progress, and they have pulled off their party trick once again.
Three minutes of stoppage time to be played at the end of the second half.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Rayo Vallecano 0 Atletico Madrid 2 (90 mins - Antoine Griezmann). There's the second, and that should be that! Jackson threads through the pass and Griezmann lifts a wonderful chipped shot over Yoel!
Great work from Thomas to set up that goal! He was the one who forced his way through the centre of midfield and had the presence of mind to still poke the pass through to Correa.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Rayo Vallecano 0 Atletico Madrid 1 (88 mins - Angel Correa). They have left it late, but finally Atletico Madrid have the lead! Thomas clips a through ball to Correa, and the Argentine lashes home a finish.
Atletico Madrid's pressing game has upped in its intensity quite significantly in the last few minutes. They recognise that this match is slipping away from them. Time is running out.
GODIN CLIPS A HEADER OFF THE BAR! Koke's freekick delivery once again causes problems inside the area, with Godin sending a header towards the goal - but it clips the bar and goes over.
Griezmann is currently being asked to play as a winger. That's where he played for Real Sociedad, but for Atletico Madrid he is most effective as a forward. They need him there for the final few minutes of this match!
Indeed, it's just not happening for Jackson. He arrived at Atletico Madrid with a big billing and a big reputation, but he has shown not of that in a red and white shirt. Disappointing.
Jackson is lacking confidence right now, that much is obvious. The Colombian has a ball to run in behind on to, but his touch lets him down and the ball drifts out for a goal kick. Whoops!
Atletico Madrid are still struggling for fluidity in the final third. You can tell that these three players - Griezmann, Jackson and Thomas - are unfamiliar with each other's games.
Rayo Vallecano sub: Chuchu OFF, Chengdong Zhang ON.
YELLOW CARD: Ze Castro (Rayo Vallecano)
Whilst the save from Yoel was undoubtedly excellent, Godin will be disappointed that he didn't score that chance. He was about seven yards out. He should expect to find the net from there.
GODIN COMES THE CLOSEST TO FINDING THE NET! Koke's deep freekick delivery finds the head of Godin, but his effort forces Yoel into an excellent reflex save. How did he see that?
YELLOW CARD: Jose Maria Gimenez (Atletico Madrid)
Bebe has come on for the home side, and the former Manchester United flop has enjoyed some success for Rayo Vallecano. He has actually become something of a cult hero here.
