All of a sudden Atletico Madrid look slightly ragged at the back. Boka comes flying forward and crosses into the box, only for Gimenez to clear desperately when he could have taken a touch.

That was very unlike Atletico Madrid! They left Samuel free from a corner kick, with the Malaga attacker heading back across goal and forcing Miranda into a clearing header over his own bar.

As is the case so often with Atletico Madrid, the opposition side - in this case Malaga - are finding it almost impossible to break down their two banks of four midfielders and four defenders.

The home side try to bully their way through the packed Atletico Madrid backline, with Amrabat firing off at goal from inside the penalty area, but his shot is blocked by the centre-back Gimenez.

The problem for Malaga this season has been that they are without a potent goal scorer in the final third. Juanmi has seven to his name, which is decent, but he is the club's top scorer this term!

If Malaga are to get back into this game then I get the feeling that it will come through Amrabat. He has been excellent since joining the club last season. Can he make an impression today?

Griezmann is chasing everything down. Atletico Madrid have upped their pressing game since the opening goal and are forcing Malaga into mistakes. Their passing is breaking down.

Atletico Madrid have scored in the opening 10 minutes of all of their last three matches. This goal wasn't that early, but they have taken a first-half lead once again.

It's not quite a set piece, but Atletico Madrid make use of their new weapon with Gamez playing in the left-back position. That was one heck of a long throw, although it should have been dealt with.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Malaga 0 Atletico Madrid 1 (24 mins - Antoine Griezmann). What a howler from Kameni! The goalkeeper comes to catch Gamez's throw in but he fumbles it and Griezmann only has to tap home into the empty net.

Gimenez has also been handed the start at the heart of the Atletico Madrid defence by Simeone, with Godin still struggling with injury ahead of Tuesday's Champions League clash against Real.

Malaga look like they're going to take a physical approach against Atletico Madrid today. Good luck with that against the likes of Arda Turan. He doesn't shy away from a battle, for sure.

Griezmann and Torres have been favoured as the front two by Simeone once again, with the former the link between midfield and attack. He has been in excellent form in the second half of the season.

That's why Oblak has managed to keep his place as Atletico Madrid's goalkeeper, even though Miguel Angel Moya has now returned from injury for the Liga champions. He has been impressive in recent games.

Despite that Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid looming on Tuesday, Simeone hasn't made many changes to his team for this game. He very seldom does, to be fair.

Both sides have struggled to create opportunities in he final third in the early exchanges of this match. Of course, Atletico Madrid face Real Madrid on Tuesday. They might be distracted.

So what chances there have been have fallen to Atleti, but it's been far from a classic...

Chance for Atleti! It's Torres who is free att he back post and he swings a boot at a cross which falls nicely for him, but the volley is horrid and the ball flies high into the stands. Awful.

Little to report other than that penalty appeal. It could well have been given and Torres was right to be annoyed.

Juami goes on a mazy run for Atleti across the face of the box. But he can't open up the visiting defence and Gimenez clers with a huge boot out from the back.
