Chris Dagnall's close-range strike gave Dale an early lead but Rotherham's Adam Le Fondre had a header cleared off the line by Tom Kennedy before Jamie Green's own-goal knocked the stuffing out of the Millers.
Two goals in three minutes from Craig Dawson and Chris O'Grady then clinched the victory.
Notts County boosted their play-off bid as Jamie Clapham's 18th-minute header saw off Macclesfield 1-0 at Meadow Lane.
Bottom club Darlington and fellow strugglers Cheltenham were both beaten at home.
Ryan Green's goal saw Hereford past the Robins 1-0 at Whaddon Road, despite the sending-off of James McQuilken.
Tadgh Purcell's early goal was in vain as the Quakers succumbed to Port Vale's second-half comeback, Doug Loft's 20-yard volley levelling the scores before Louis Dodds and Lewis Haldane sealed the points with a 3-1 scoreline at the Northern Echo Arena.
Elsewhere, defender Anthony Charles's fine left-footed strike earned Aldershot a 1-0 home win over Bradford while Torquay drew 0-0 with Dagenham and Redbridge at Plainmoor.
