County trail League Two leaders Bournemouth by just four points, but speculation has been rife that Sven-Goran Eriksson was unhappy with the situation at the club leading to suggestions that the manager's position was under threat after two years in charge of the Magpies.
McParland's role at the club has been in question since the high-profile takeover of the club by Swiss-based Middle East consortium Munto Finance, who brought in former England boss Eriksson as director of football in the summer.
The Scot has been relieved of his duties despite County losing just three of their 12 league matches this season with his final match a 2-2 home draw against struggling Torquay United to maintain the side's unbeaten home record at Meadow Lane.
Eriksson said last week that the new owners had told him they wanted to reach the Premier League in three years.
