Wolves 3-4 Chelsea result - Enzo Maresca's side hold on in nervy thriller to progress to Carabao Cup quarter-final

Chelsea secured their spot in the Carabao Cup quarter-final draw as they narrowly held on to win 4-3 following Wolves' spirited second-half fight back.

The Blues were comfortable in the first half, with two early goals from Andrey Santos and Tyrique George before Estevao scored a sumptuous chip to give them a 3-0 lead at the break.

However, Vitor Pereira’s half-time changes made a difference as the hosts looked far better in the second period and Tolu Arokodere scored their first just after the interval.

They added their second 25 minutes later when David Moller Wolfe struck a sweet volley to give the hosts hope of a comeback.

Matters were made worse when Chelsea went down to 10 men in the 86th minute. Substitute Liam Delap was sent off on his return to the side after two months out when he jumped into Emmanuel Agbadou with his arms up, despite already being on a yellow card.

Jamie Gittens looked to have wrapped up the game after he scored a fantastic volley from 25 yards out to put Chelsea 4-2 up.

However, there was more drama to come as the visitors' chaotic defending led to a chance for Wolfe, who pulled another one back in stoppage time.

Eventually, Enzo Maresca's side held on to ensure they would progress to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.

The Blues have a daunting London derby next, as they face Spurs on Saturday. Wolves, meanwhile, will look to pick up their first league win of the season away to Fulham.

A crazy end to the game in this seven goal thriller! Chelsea are able to hold on to a nervy win and book their spot in the quarter-final draw.

Wolves put up a spirited effort in the second half after the Blues were comfortably 3-0 up at half-time. The hosts scored two second half goals before Gittens looked to have ended the game with his strike, until the hosts grabbed a third in stoppage time to create plenty of tension at the end.

Enzo Maresca's side went down to ten men when Liam Delap was sent off, and will be relieved to have secured their place in the next round.

The hosts are dominating the ball at the end here with two minutes left.

What an end to the game here at Molineux! Again it is very sloppy defending from Chelsea, who fail to clear the ball out before the ball bounces off Caicedo into Møller Wolfe's path, who grabs his second of the game with a tidy finish.

Gittens scores a beauty! The ball is headed into his path, the Englishman hits it first on the volley from around 25 yards out with a fantastic strike which smacks the post and goes in.

That will relieve some pressure!

The forward takes a touch before trying to fire it at goal, but Hato makes a key block to prevent it going in.

Facundo Buonanotte is replaced by Moises Caicedo. Maresca will be hoping the midfielder can add some solidity to the middle of the park.

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde comes on for the goalscorer Arokodare. 

Former Wolves winger Pedro Neto comes on for Tyrique George.

The hosts have another one! The ball goes into the box, Agbadou flicks a header on which finds Møller Wolfe who strikes a sweet volley on his left foot into the bottom corner.

Game on!

Strand Larsen comes close! Arokodare flicks a cross on with his head and the Norwegian tries to place the ball into the corner but Jorgensen gets his fingertips to it and makes an important save.

However, an offside call is given and Chelsea are given the free-kick.

Jørgen Strand Larsen replaces Hwang Hee-Chan.

Estevao, Romeo Lavia and Malo Gusto all come off. They are replaced by Liam Delap, Enzo Fernandez and Marc Cucurella.

Hwang slides in late on Lavia with a bad challenge, Tosin comes over and shoves him which causes tensions to boil over. The referee shows Hwang a yellow card.

The hosts are starting to put some pressure on the Chelsea defence with crosses coming on and the Blues look a lot less comfortable than in the first half.

Arokodare pulls one back! Hwang has acres of space and finds a through ball to the centre forward, who takes a nice touch before placing it into the bottom right corner past Filip Jorgensen.
