LIVERPOOL TO FACE NEWCASTLE IN CARABAO CUP FINAL AFTER THUMPING SORRY SPURS
Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai and Virgil van Dijk scored the goals as Liverpool walloped an insipid Spurs 4-0 at Anfield, easily overturning the one-goal first-leg deficit.
Liverpool immediately seized control of the game, Spurs allowing them the run of midfield. Though they did not create many chances early on, it was inevitable that the pressure would eventually tell and on 34 minutes, Gakpo finished smartly after good work from Salah, Jones and Darwin Nunez.
The notion of a Spurs' improvement was dispelled as soon as the second half started, Liverpool again assuming control with no opposition.
They went ahead in the tie on 51 minutes when Salah creamed home a penalty after Antonin Kinsky bought down Nunez, and made it safe 15 minutes from time when Szoboszlai rounded off a fine move.
Arne Slot's side even added a gratuitous fourth on 80 minutes when Van Dijk headed home from a corner.
So Liverpool go through to meet Newcastle at Wembley - a match in which they will face precisely the kind of physical examination Spurs shied away from in Merseyside. Where they go from here is less obvious.

'LIVERPOOL FULLY DESERVED THE VICTORY'
Ange Postecoglou spoke to Sky Sports after the full-time whistle, and said Liverpool were full value for the heavy victory.
"Ultimately Liverpool fully deserved the victory tonight. They were the better team. We just weren't able to get a grip in any part of the game defensively or with the ball. They were too good for us.
"We allowed them to get into the game, we weren't aggressive as we needed to be. Again, we didn't start the game off on the right foot, it allowed them to get comfortable. Once they got comfortable, it was difficult for us to get some control back."

CODY GAKPO IS PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Speaking to Sky Sports, he says Liverpool are in good flow, they need to take it game-by-game because they want to win as much silverware as possible.
"I think the stadium helped a lot. We knew we had to come back. We went out there and tried to bring as much chances as possible. With the quality we have, we know we are going to get chances. It was a great win.
"They [fans] helped us a lot and it gives us extra energy. We are very happy with these fans.
"We are on the right track, but we have to take it game-by-game. Today it was a good job done - we are in one final, but we have a lot to play for.
"We are in a good flow at the moment, but we have to keep going. You know how football goes and it's about consistency. We have to keep the momentum."
THE FINAL SHOULD BE A GREAT TUSSLE
Newcastle have goals in them and will get after it. As for Spurs, I can't get over how weak they were tonight. At no point did they threaten to do anything.

FULL TIME: LIVERPOOL (4) 4-0 (1) TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR
Liverpool move into the final of the Carabao Cup and will play Newcastle. Spurs do not and will not.

TIME ELAPSES
Spurs, man.

WE'LL HAVE THREE ADDED MINUTES
Liverpool v Newcastle, then. Now there is a team that will ask physical questions of the league leaders. They'll be desperate to win and will play like it.
90'
AND BY THAT I MEAN
Spurs have't run in behind, hit switches, got close, or done any of the things that force an opponent to extend. Liverpool have played this match at their own tempo and not looked discomfitted at any point.
88'
LIVERPOOL KNOW
That if they have the kind of possession Spurs allowed them, it's almost impossible for them not to score at least twice. They won't have prepared for a match to be this easy – physically, they've not been tested at all.
87'
CHANGE FOR LIVERPOOL
Quansah replaces Van Dijk. He's had harder evenings.

SPURS LOOK LIKE THEY WANT TO GO HOME
They've played like it too, and this might yet get worse. Liverpool win a free-kick, Szboszlai curls it in, and Jota is unusually tentative in heading wide.
82'
CHANGE FOR SPURS
Moore for Davies. "Go on lad, it's your big chance. Make yourself a hero, mate."

CHANGES FOR LIVERPOOL
Off go Salah and Gakpo, on come Diaz and Elliott.

Liverpool
GOAL! LIVERPOOL (4) 4-0 (1) TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR (VAN DIJK) A corner swung in by Mac Allister, Van Dijk saunters away from his man, then flicks a header across goal and in. This has been a capitulation, I'm afraid.

LIVERPOOL AREN'T FINISHED
They win a corner down the left.

SON APPEARS INTO THE GAME
He bursts through midfield, then outside Konate having tossed a lollipop, before a rising shot that clips the face of the bar! He absolutely caught that.

Liverpool
GOAL! LIVERPOOL (3) 3-0 (1) TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR (SZOBOSZLAI) This is so slick, but so easy. Mac Allister carries, a swish forward finds Bradley, his first-time pass finds Szoboszlai on the burst, and the finish, slid past Kinsky, is gentle but emphatic. Liverpool are going to play Newcastle at Wembley!

LIVERPOOL MOVE FORWARD AGAIN
The ball coming infield to Gravenberch. Out of tiredness or disrespect, Spurs allow him to shoot ... and he sweeps a fine outswinger onto the base of the far post.

LIVERPOOL'S TRANSFER-MARKET RECORD
Is absolutely incredible. Obviously it helped that they had Jurgen Klopp, but still, he's gone and they're at a point where they've always got good options off the bench.
