Aston Villa 1-2 Manchester City That's it! Manchester City win the Carabao Cup for the third year in a row! They were much the better side, although Rodri’s decisive goal came from a corner that was wrongly awarded. Sergio Aguero got City’s first, with Ally Samatta’s superb header bringing it back to 2-1 at half-time. Villa lost with honour – and with a what-might-have-been when Bjorn Engels’ late header was pushed onto the post by Claudio Bravo.

Good save from Nyland! City almost sealed it on the break. Sterling picked out Bernardo Silva, whose low shot was kicked away by Nyland.

Engels hits the post! Targett's inswinging corner was headed towards goal by Engels on the six-yard line, and the diving Claudio Bravo pushed it onto the inside of the post. It went through his hands a little bit, but it was still a priceless save.

Grealish wins a corner for Villa. This is their chance...

City are passing Villa to death, and whenever they lose the ball they are winning it back straight away. It's a masterclass in how to use attack as the best form of defence.

City substitution: Gabriel Jesus replaces the limping Sergio Aguero.

City continue to press for a third goal, with Bernardo Silva's deflected shot going over the bar. Villa are on their last legs.

Aguero hits the side netting! Bernardo Silva danced down the left of the box and stood up a lovely deep cross to Aguero, who smashed an acrobatic volley into the ground that bounced up into the side netting. He was caught by Targett after hitting the shot and is limping a bit.

Villa make their third change, with the goalscorer Aly Samatta replaced by Keinan Davis.

For all their endeavour - they really have worked so hard - Villa are struggling to get a foothold in the game. City are just too good.

De Bruyne shoots well wide from 20 yards with his left foot.

Good save from Nyland! De Bruyne's deep corner was headed down by the unmarked Rodri, who plunged to his left to make a smart save. That was almost a second goal from a corner for Rodri.

Nakamba is booked for a very strong tackle on Aguero. City wanted him sent off, but his studs were low enough to the ground for it to be just a yellow card.

This is a decent spell for Villa, who have decided to go for broke in an attempt to grab an equaliser. They could end up losing 4-1, but at least they won't die wondering.
