Real Oviedo v Real Madrid result - Kylian Mbappe double helps secure win for Xabi Alonso's side

Real Madrid were far from their glittering best in north west Spain, as they battled against a deep and resolute Real Oviedo defence, but still managed to net three goals, pick up all three points and kept a clean sheet in the process.

Los Blancos pushed forward from the off, looking to break down the Oviedo defence, but at times struggled to find the killer final pass in the first half.

Xabi Alonso’s side made the breakthrough in the 37th minute thanks to a goal from Kylian Mbappe. The 20-year-old Arda Guler played a brilliant through ball into the path of Mbappe and the Frenchman expertly latched onto it before lashing home his effort past Aaron Escandell and into the corner.

Madrid started the second half in the same way they ended the first, pushing on and looking to put the game to bed but without creating any real clear-cut opportunities.

Real Oviedo, who very rarely found themselves in the final third or in the Real Madrid penalty area, came within a couple of inches of drawing level 10 minutes from time when Kwasi Sibo’s first-time strike cannoned off the outside of the post.

Just moments later, Real Madrid put the game to bed, with Mbappe grabbing his second of the evening. Substitute Vinicius Junior pounced on a loose ball before releasing Mbappe on the left-hand side of the penalty area, and he opened his body up before rifling home past Escandell.

Vinicius put the icing on the cake in stoppage time, receiving the ball from Brahim Diaz before calmly stroking home his effort.

Up next for Real Madrid is Mallorca, who have failed to win either of their first two La Liga matches this season (D1 L1), whilst for Real Oviedo, they host Real Sociedad, who have drawn their first two league matches this season.

Vinicius Junior has wrapped up all three points for Real Madrid with a lovely strike in stoppage time. Brahim rolled the ball to the Brazilian on the left-hand side who simply opened his body up and stroked home his effort.
