Getafe 1-1 Barcelona - La Liga result as Barca drop more points in Madrid thanks to Mauro Arambarri strike

Barcelona missed a golden opportunity to recover ground in La Liga as Getafe's Mauro Arambarri cancelled out Jules Kounde's early strike to ensure the spoils were shared at the Coliseum.

Getafe were only out of the relegation on goal difference as the game kicked off, with head coach Jose Bordalas opting for an ultra-defensive gameplan that seemed to be undone almost immediately when Kounde latched onto a sensational Pedri pass and fired past David Soria at the second time of asking.

However, Barcelona could not add a second despite dominating the opening half-hour, and misses from Kounde and Raphinha were punished when Inaki Pena could only push a dangerous Coba da Costa volley straight into the path of Arambarri.

Robert Lewandowski could have restored the lead soon after but the visitors looked less and less likely to score as the match went on, with Getafe's dark arts and gamesmanship proving effective at putting the Catalans off their game.

Despite a stellar run in their European and domestic cup competitions since the start of November (seven wins from seven, 27 goals scored and a Spanish Super Cup triumph), Barcelona lost control and dropped points for the seventh time in eight La Liga games.

Jules Kounde's opener seemingly set Hansi Flick's side into cruise control as they dominated possession in the opening stages and peppered David Soria's goal - but Mauro Arambarri's equaliser on one of Getafe's first real attacks ten minutes before the break.

From that point Barcelona struggled to break down their hosts who gain a valuable point to go clear of the relegation zone after Espanyol won a six-pointer with Valladolid.

However, the Catalan club could finish the weekend seven points behind Real Madrid if Los Blancos beat Las Palmas tomorrow to go top of La Liga.

And that's all she wrote! Barcelona aren't happy but Getafe entered this game hunting a point at any cost, and they executed their gameplan almost to perfection.

It took a similarly flawless pass to unlock their defence inside 10 minutes and allow Jules Kounde to take the lead, but the contest was surprisingly even after Mauro Arambarri's equalizer and Los Azulanos create some breathing room at the bottom of the table while Hansi Flick's side missed a golden opportunity to close on the La Liga leaders.

This time it's Raphinha in the book - that's three in the last 10 minutes!

We're well past those four promised minutes but the referee is showing no sign of stopping...

Ismael Bekhoucha is down clutching his face after a pat on the cheek from Balde - but it's yet another moment of gamesmanship from Getafe.

Is this the moment Flick's side have been waiting for? Raphinha is bounced to the ground giving Barcelona a free-kick around 35 yards out to the left of the penalty area.

It's an enticing chance... but the delivery slams straight into the wall and another chance melts away.

It's taken until the 73rd minute for Getafe to earn a corner, and Inaki Pena doesn't look entirely comfortable punching it behind for another set-piece.

This time Barca do clear but Getafe dink it back over to Aldarete who has a one-on-one before the linesman's flag goes up.

Yamal opened the scoring as Barcelona dismantled Real Madrid to win the Spanish Supercup last weekend but he's been expertly marshaled by Getafe for much of this encounter and is starting to make rash decisions borne from frustration on a rare off day.

While Barcelona have had several quality second-half chances, all of them have come from rapid breaks up the field rather than sustained pressure.

Perhaps the substitutes are taking a while to settle in, though credit must go to Domingos Duarte and Omar Aldarete in the centre of Getafe's defence too.

If you're wondering why there weren't any comments in the last four minutes, that's principally because Carlos Alena spent three-quarters of it trudging off the field for Carles Perez.

The other change is more surprising though - Yellu Santiago was on the field for less than 15 minutes before he's yanked back off in favor of forward Alvaro Rodriguez.

Gavi had a bright start to the game - as did everyone in highlighter yellow - but he's faded since and spent more of the second half fighting Iglesias off the ball than affecting the game with it.

Dani Olmo will replace him though and provide more of a direct threat to Soria's goal.

Everything has run thorough De Jong since his half-time introduction - and sure enough he's central this time when a pre-planned short corner routine finds space in Getafe's box.

Barcelona still can't force a save from Soria though - then Uche tries a speculative shot at the other end after a Kounde mistake.

Yamal dances through the Getafe midfield as only he can on the edge of the penalty area but sustains a couple of niggling tackles in the process, and when Juan Iglesias hits the deck after Gavi's enthusiastic attempt to recover the ball for a free-kick, things boil over.
