How complete Lamine is as so young an age. If he doesn't improve at all, he can be an all-time great AND HAVE A LOOK! As I type, he's on the right side of the box, somehow inhales to slip between two defenders, again unfurls his finish ... which Junior tips on to the angle! Barca, though, sustain the attack...

It's pretty much all Barca now; Villarreal are threatening far less often on the counter.

Is he going to execute his finish again? No, he looks to slide a pass to the far post but puts too much on it.

And he moves inside off the left, lamps a shot ... and it's well over the bar.

Already, he's not far off the best in the world. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is up there, Mohamed Salah too, but not many others.

It's ridiculous! It's absolutely ridiculous! From the right, Lamine prompts, finding Garcia by the right corner of the box, takes a return in the same area, dips inside, and you can guess what happens next: his finish happens next, a beautiful low curler bent low into the far corner. What a player.

Er, no: Cubarsi finds lamine, but when he sends Fermin away down the right, a slip means the attack breaks down.

Who paints a terrific ball into the box and Garcia, recently established as a goal-threat, heads goalwards ... and Junior saves easily enough.

Pedri into Fermin, square to Lewandowski ... who's tackled at the last. Then, from the resultant corner, Lamine wins it high, lashes an immediate shot and wins a further corner

It looks sore but no more, and he's soon back playing.

Villarreal will want to keep doing what they're doing; Barca need to move the ball quicker to work the spaces and one v ones.

But can only drag a shot well wide.

Villarreeal will score again on the counter. They're being left so much space in midfield and in behind; Barca are amazing going forward, but lack defensive ballast and structure.

Who immediately sets Pepe away, just Cubarsi between him and goal. He chucks a few lollipops then goes on the outside, but just as you think he's going to shoot he checks, looking for a wider lane, and the effort is blocked.

Lamine moves down the right, lays back, and the cross is a beauty, picking out Lewandiwski, who rises above his man, powers a header goalwards ... but too close to Junior, who tips over. That looked a certain equalizer – Lewandowski has made a career out of finishing those – but it's a good save and the corner comes to nowt.

Who fouls him to halt the counter. I'm not sure how a booking is evaded.

Barca have created little so far.

Treads on Perez's hand. He makes a fuss, but will be fine.

They might want some depth in wide areas – they're not about to sign players better than Lamine and Raphinha, but could use quality deputies; they might want a goalscoring midfielder to augment Frenkie and Pedri; and they most definitely need a world-class centre-back, along with more pressure on the ball to protect the high line. I'm not sure they've the cash to manage much of that.

And Junior punches out.
