BARCELONA HONE IN ON LA LIGA CROWN
Barcelona look set to win their 28th La Liga title following a 4-3 win in El Clasico against title rivals Real Madrid.
A first-half onslaught of goals, including a Raphinha brace, were enough for Hansi Flick’s side to move seven points above Los Blancos with three games remaining.
Real Madrid knew that they needed to win at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys to stand any chance of claiming the title.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side started superbly with Kylian Mbappe first netting from the penalty spot and then completing his brace inside 14 minutes.
However, defensive injuries have plagued Los Blancos this season and once Eric Garcia headed a goal back the floodgates opened.
Lamine Yamal steered his side level before Raphinha pounded on the defence twice to make it 4-2 at half-time.
Despite Barcelona looking in control, Mbappe struck on the break to complete his hat-trick and pull the visitors back into the match.
However, it was not to be and Fermin Lopez was only denied a fifth Barcelona goal at the death by VAR.
Barcelona could seal the Liga title at Espanyol on Thursday night, or if Real Madrid are beaten by Mallorca the previous evening.
