CHAMPIONS BARCELONA END LIGA SEASON IN STYLE BEATING ATHLETIC CLUB 3-0
Robert Lewandowski scored a brace as La Liga champions Barcelona beat Athletic Club 3-0 to cap off a superb season.
Nico Williams went close to giving the hosts a lead after just seven minutes, with the 22-year-old cutting in from the left-hand side before firing an effort that flew just wide of the target.
Robert Lewandowski fired Barcelona into the lead after 14 minutes, scoring both his 100th goal for the club and Barcelona’s 100th goal in La Liga this season with a delightful chip over Unai Simon.
Three minutes later, Lewandowski doubled Barcelona’s lead, with Raphinha’s corner diverted by an Athletic player to the back post where the Polish striker was waiting to head home.
Maroan Sannadi had Athletic’s best chance on the stroke of half-time when he was played through to go one-on-one with Inaki Pena but opted against taking a shot, instead choosing to try and cut back inside and the chance fizzled out.
Lewandowski had a huge chance to complete his hat-trick a few minutes into the second half, with Raphinha putting the ball on a plate for the forward with a great cross from the left-hand side, but Lewandowski could only fire his effort well over the crossbar.
Athletic Club almost halved the deficit courtesy of an own goal, with the ball striking Pau Cubarsi and going goalward, but Inaki Pena reacted brilliantly to tip the ball onto the crossbar and keep his clean sheet intact.
Barcelona capped off the victory in style, with Dani Olmo converting a late penalty to make it 3-0.
Barca finished the 2024/25 campaign on 88 points, four above Real Madrid. Athletic Club will not be too disheartened by the defeat, with their place in next season’s UEFA Champions League confirmed.

THE HIGH LINE WORKING WELL
Athletic Club are constantly trying to play a pass through Barcelona's defensive line but the Blaugrana are timing their offside trap well, catching the hosts offside five times already this evening. As always though, with Barca's dangerously high line, it works well until it doesn't and the hosts will continue to try and find the pass that catches them out.
