Atletico get this derby underway!

The players are out on the pitch. Before kick-off there is a moment's tribute for Adrian Escudero, Atletico's all-time leading goalscorer, who died at the age of 83 earlier this month.

Atletico's under-pressure manager Quique Sanchez Flores has admitted this season has been a disappointment for last year's Europa League winners: "I am obviously disappointed because this season has not been the one we imagined it was going to be. When the season ends we will have to see what we did wrong, but there are still 30 points to play for and we have planted the seed to be more competitive in the future."

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho is looking forward to congratulating Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp for leading his side into the Champions League quarter-finals when their teams meet next month: "I left England in 2007/8 and Spurs weren't in the UEFA Cup, they weren't even in the first six in the Premier League. "Martin Jol started the good work and Harry has continued it in amazing ways. I'm so happy for that. He's a friend, one of the few really good friends I made in England."

Atletico, seventh, last beat their neighbours Real at the Calderon in the 1998-99 season and have already lost three times to them this season, in the league at the Bernabeu and in both legs of a Copa del Rey quarter-final tie.

Barcelona are currently beating Getafe 2-0. A win would open up an eight-point gap at the top of the table ahead of this game. Atletico can move one place up to sixth with a rare win over their neighbours.
