It looked as though Saki Kumagai pushed Grings as she attempted to latch onto a good pass from Bartusiak, but the referee didn't see anything wrong with it.

A chance that sums up the half. Da Mbabi does well to feed Grings but the striker blasts the ball high over the bar from 20 yards. Disappointing.

This has been a bit of a disappointing contest in all honesty. We have two good teams, but both are failing to carve out many decent shots at goal.

Japan attempt another neat dink over the defence, like Xavi likes, but the German defence mop up with ease. Japan really do have a nice line in inventive passing.

More nice stuff from Da Mbabi as she hassles and harries Japan. However, yet again the final product is not there. That is a problem that has afflicted both teams tonight.

A clever attempt at a chipped through-ball from Miyama fails to find its target. Japan have suffered from a lack of cutting edge in the final third so far.

Garefrekes chips in a high pass for Grings and it doesn't give the striker much of a chance to control .Garefrekes hasn't been at her best so far tonight.

Da Mbabi embarks on an excellent run down the left wing and attempts to slip the ball into Inka Grings. She cannot control in the box and fails to get a shot away though.

Japan have enjoyed 58 per cent possession so far. But they haven't turned that dominance into a goal just yet.

Oh dear, Garefrekes take a horrible touch when she is through on goal, allowing Ayumi Kaihori to come off her line and prevent a shot. She should have done much better there.

At the other end, Behringer punts a shot wide from 20 yards as Germany threaten. The pace has upped a touch and this is better.

A good chance for Yuki Nagasato as a defensive lapse from Saskia Bartusiak allows the forward to gain possession in the box, Hoever she drags her shot across the face of goal.

This might be a decent chance for Japan. They win a free-kick out on the left flank, but take it short and don't quite execute the move properly.

This game is yet to really catch fire and it hasn't provided much of a spectacle just yet, in all honesty.

Kinga releases Shinbu Ohno down the right but Germany close the winger down and snuff out any hint of danger.

Superb chance! Melanie Behringer delivers a perfect inswinging free-kick from the left but Garefrekes attempts to control with her knee from about three yards out and wastes the chance.

Japan are pinging the ball around nicely at present, but that's no surprise. They are a classy side after all.

Now Celia Da Mbabi takes a shot across the face of goal but her effort flies wide of the far post.
