Tosin Adarabioyo, 18, Aleix Garcia, 18, Manu Garcia, 18, David Faupala, 19 and Bersant Celina, 19, all made their full debuts for the club against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Pellegrini had said in the build-up that he did not consider Sunday's match to be "a real game" with City due to fly out to Ukraine on Monday for their Champions League last-16 encounter with Dynamo Kiev.
City then take on Liverpool in the Capital One Cup final at Wembley next weekend, with Sunday's fifth-round encounter coming well down their list of priorities.
Chelsea, however, are taking the cup seriously and had an unchanged side from the team which lost 2-1 away at Paris Saint-Germain in midweek.
CHELSEA TEAM: Courtois; Azpilicueta, Cahill, Ivanovic, Baba Rahman; Fabregas, Mikel; Pedro, Willian, Hazard; Diego Costa. Subs: Begovic, Miazga, Matic, Loftus-Cheek, Oscar, Traore, Remy.
MAN CITY: Caballero, Zabaleta, Adarabioyo, Demichelis, Kolarov, Fernando, A.Garcia, M.Garcia, Celina, Iheanacho, Faupala. Subs: Hart, Clichy, Humphreys, Kompany, Fernandinho, Barker, Sterling.
