Paulo Bento promoted

Sporting have promoted development team trainer Paulo Bento to head coach, replacing Jose Peseiro who resigned earlier this week. The former international midfielder steered the development team to a youth title last season in his first year in the job.

Bento played for several teams, including Benfica and Oviedo in Spain. He ended his career last season with Sporting.

Sporting are seventh in the 18-team table with 12 points from seven games. They travel to Gil Vicente on Sunday.
