CELTIC COME FROM BEHIND TO SECURE FIRST WIN OF EUROPA LEAGUE CAMPAIGN
Celtic picked up their first win of the league phase in the Europa League after coming from behind to secure three crucial points at Celtic Park.
Sturm Graz opened the scoring early in the first half through a stunning goal by Tomi Horvat, who fired a beautiful strike from around 25 yards out into the top corner past Kasper Schmeichel.
Both Kelechi Iheanacho and Alistair Johnston came off in the first half to injury, which may be a potential setback for Brendan Rodgers and his side.
Celtic created plenty of opportunities in the first half but were not clinical enough, and it looked like it was not going to be their night.
Eventually, they equalised just after the hour mark through Liam Scales. After a well worked short corner, the ball was passed into the box and the defender placed a lovely finish into the bottom corner to get the Bhoys back in the game.
Just two minutes later, they completed the quick turnaround and took the lead through a fantastic corner which was headed in from close range by Benjamin Nygren.
Shortly after, the visitors went down to ten men after 70 minutes, when Tochi Chukwuani was sent off with a straight red card after a dangerous challenge on Callum McGregor with his studs up.
Rodgers’ side were able to hold on and celebrate a much-needed victory. They now have four points from their first three games of the league phase, with a trip to Denmark to face FC Midtjylland awaiting them next in Europe.
