BUTLAND THE HERO AS RANGERS REACH LAST EIGHT
Rangers surrendered their two-goal, first-leg advantage against Fenerbahce, but Jack Butland saved two penalties in the shoot-out to help them through to a UEFA Europa League quarter-final with Athletic Bilbao.
James Tavernier, Vaclav Cerny and Tom Lawrence netted penalties for The Gers, with Ianis Hagi having his effort saved, while only Eden Dzeko and Alexander Djiku scored kicks for Fenerbahce, with Butland saving from Dusan Tadic and Fred, before Mert Hakan Yandas blazed the last kick high and wide of the target.
Their 3-1 victory in Istanbul left Barry Ferguson's side big favourites to go through, but despite being the better team in the first half, a fine volley from Sebastian Szymanski left the tie on the stroke of half time left the tie on a knife edge.
Szymanski then levelled the aggregate score 17 minutes from time, converting Mert Muldur's pull back.
The result means Rangers will now face Bilbao in the next round after the Basque side edged past Roma.
MOURINHO: ARROGANT REFEREE SHOULD HAVE GIVEN THREE PENALTIES
"We were by far the best team on the night - not by a little bit, by far," Mourinho told TNT Sports.
"The referee and VAR decided we should go to VAR. There were three penalties in the 120 minutes.
"The fourth official was a nice guy, he was not arrogant like the referee. I was calm.
"I hope everything isn't a consequence of the Budapest final. After my suspension after the Budapest final, we are not in the Champions League because of a penalty that only VAR saw."
    NO PRACTICE, NO PROBLEM

    BUTLAND THE RANGERS HERO

THAT IS A BIT OF REDEMPTION - McCOIST
"We were concerned. It was a brilliant result in Turkey but this team had to play better. It was a beautiful first goal, the second was a bit sloppy.
"When it went to penalties, my mind was going back to Frankfurt. I was devastated. I don't know what the players felt.
"That is a bit of redemption. I'm so happy for the players. I'm happy for Barry. I'm most happy for the fans."
