UEFA Europa League round-up: Lazio dispatch Real Sociedad to stay top, Eintracht Frankfurt score sensational double

Lazio prevailed over 10-man Real Sociedad to remain at the top of the UEFA Europe League group phase table. Meanwhile, Eintracht Frankfurt beat Ferencvaros 2-0 to move to second in the standings. In the early kick-offs, Tottenham claimed a nervy 3-2 win over Hoffenheim to ease the pressure on Ange Postecoglou and strengthen their position in the top eight.

Lazio dispatched 10-man Real Sociedad 3-1 to consolidate their spot at the UEFA Europa League group phase summit.
The Italian side netted three goals through Mario Gila, Mattia Zaccagni and Valentin Castellanos in a first half that also saw Real Sociedad’s Aihen Munoz sent off for two yellow card offences.
Ander Barrenetxea scored a late consolation for the La Liga side.
Lazio sit top of the league on 19 points, while Real Sociedad are in 18th.
Meanwhile, Eintracht Frankfurt beat Ferencvaros 2-0 to move to second in the Europa League table.
Frankfurt’s 19-year-old midfielder Can Uzun opened the scoring with a thumping strike from distance, before Hugo Ekitike netted a sensational second, beating his man with a pirouette and poking the ball beyond the keeper.
The German side look likely to ease into the next round, while Ferencvaros sit in 22nd, just in the playoff spots.
Late drama saw Manchester United edge past Rangers 2-1 courtesy of a stoppage-time Bruno Fernandes goal. 
United took the lead at Old Trafford after Jack Butland inadvertently punched the ball into his own net from a corner.
However, in the 88th minute, Rangers’ Cyriel Dessers hammered a strike into the bottom corner, and appeared to have earned his side a point.
But four minutes later, United skipper Fernandes netted a 92nd-minute winner to see the Old Trafford club move up to fourth in the Europa League standings.

Elsewhere, it was a night of shock results as Ajax lost 1-0 away at Latvian side Rigas Futbola Skola (RFS).
Adam Markhiyev’s goal in the 78th minute was enough to beat the Dutch side, who are now 16th in the standings. RFS, meanwhile, are 30th, with no chance of progressing to the next round. 
Nice lost 1-0 away at IF Elfsborg after Gustav Henriksson nodded home a second-half header.
The French side are 35th in the standings, having failed to pick up a victory throughout the Europa League campaign, while Elfsborg climbed to 20th. 
Union Saint-Gilloise are 15th in the standings after coming from behind to beat Braga 2-1. 
Amine El Ouazzani gave Braga a first-half lead, which was subsequently cancelled out by Franjo Ivanovic’s second-half strike. Ivanovic then added a second to give Union Saint-Gilloise the victory and see Braga fall to 27th.

PAOK beat Slavia Prague 2-0 to go 17th in the Europa League standings. 
Stefan Schwab opened the scoring from the spot, before Giannis Konstantelias capitalised on ponderous Slavia Prague defending to extend PAOK’s lead. 
Meanwhile, Midtjylland beat Ludogorets 2-0 with the goals coming from Dario Osorio and Valdemar Andreasen. Midtjylland are 19th in the standings while Ludogorets are 33rd.

Europa League early kick-offs

In the early kick-offs, Tottenham claimed a 3-2 win over Hoffenheim to ease the pressure on Ange Postecoglou and strengthen their spot in the Europa League top eight.
Spurs took an early lead courtesy of James Maddison, before Son Heung-Min made it 2-0 midway through the first half. Anton Stach momentarily halved the deficit for Hoffenheim, only for Son to restore the north Londoners’ two-goal cushion with his second strike of the evening. 
Despite David Mokwa netting a late consolation for the home side, the victory sees Postecoglou's men go sixth in the table and Hoffenheim fall to 28th.

Elsewhere, AZ Alkmaar scored a late goal to beat Roma 1-0 and dent Claudio Ranieri’s side’s hopes of progressing to the next round. 
Former Spurs striker Troy Parrott scored the game’s only goal in the 80th minute to see AZ climb to 14th and Roma go 21st.
FCSB claimed a 3-2 victory over Qarabag in one of the night’s most dramatic encounters.
Qarabag’s opener, scored within 57 seconds through Leandro Andrade was cancelled out by FCSB’s skipper Adrian Sut’s sixth-minute header.
Qarabag soon retook the lead through a Joyskim Dawa own goal, only for David Miculescu to net FCSB’s second equaliser of the first-half.
But Sut’s second of the night in the 73rd minute was enough to see FCSB claim victory and move up to eighth in the standings.

Meanwhile, FC Twente beat Malmo 3-2 to keep the Dutch outfit’s slim hopes of a playoff spot alive. 
Sem Steijn and Ricky van Wolfswinkel both scored spot-kicks either side of Lasse Berg Johnsen’s strike to give Twente a 2-1 advantage. Gustaf Lagerbielke then netted the Eredivisie side’s third in the second half before Anders Christiansen scored a 79th minute consolation for Malmo. 
Malmo sit 32nd in the standings while Twente are in 26th, just two points from the playoff places with a game remaining. 
Olympiacos beat Porto 1-0 to consolidate their place in the Europa League playoff spots. 
Ayoub El Kaabi made up for a horror miss earlier in the game to swipe home Olympiacos’ winner in the 80th minute. 
The Moroccan's strike, his fifth in the Europa League this season and 18th in all competitions, was enough to see Olympiacos climb to 12th in the table.

Moreover, Bodo/Glimt beat Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv 3-1 in Norway. 
Dor Peretz's 12th-minute opener for Maccabi Tel Aviv was cancelled out by Kasper Hogh later in the half. Hakon Evjen added a second for the home side before Hogh consolidated the victory with his second of the night. 
Bodo/Glimt sit in 10th while Maccabi Tel Aviv are 29th. 
Viktoria Plzen beat Anderlecht 2-0 thanks to first-half goals from Lukas Cerv and Prince Kwabena Adu. The victory moves the Czech outfit to 11th while Anderlecht sit in seventh.
Finally, Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce played out a tepid 0-0 draw with Lyon. The Turkish side are 23rd in the league and Lyon are fifth.
