VARANE THE KEY AT THE BACK?
Ten Hag has made difficult decisions since taking over as Manchester United. He’s dropped club talisman Ronaldo from the regular Premier League squad, while club captain Maguire has also been taken out of the firing line.
In turn, World Cup winner Varane and new addition Martinez have formed an impressive partnership at the back. Indeed, United have not lost a game with Varane starting this season while they have only conceded just two goals in 405 minutes with the Frenchman on the pitch.

SHERIFF LOOKING TO LOCK UP SHOP AGAINST UNITED
Sheriff have a stubborn defence and it’ll need to be at its best if the club are to prevail against Man Utd this evening, according to the club’s manager, Tomas.
Speaking after Sheriff’s 2-0 win against FC Milsami Orhei in the Moldova Super Liga at the weekend, Tomas said: “Manchester United is the most famous team in the world. They didn’t play this week. We need to prepare ourselves and try to take advantage of the chances that will be.
“The most important thing is how we play defence. We’re going to have our moments. There may not be many of them. But we must use the small chances that will appear.”

TEN HAG’S RESPECT FOR SHERIFF
While Man Utd will be hoping to improve upon last week’s disappointing defeat to Real Sociedad, Ten Hag stressed that Sheriff were not a team to be underestimated.
In his pre-match press conference the Dutchman said: “Pressure is for every game. We have to win every game. When you lose the first game, you have to win the second, so we know what our task is. We always play a strong team, so tomorrow we will also play a strong team.
“It's quite clear, they beat Real Madrid and Shakhtar (Donetsk), they are capable. We have to make it our game but we are conscious of that fact. They are a serious and decent opponent and we have to play our best for the win."
