Another fine cross from Januzaj, but Merino, on the leap, can't connect with his attempted volley.

I saw this earlier and it's great.

This has been a really good start from Sociedad.

Januzaj pops up on the left and feeds a luscious cross into the middle for Isak, but Lindelof slides in and does really well to take the ball away from him without scoring an own goal. The resultant corner comes to nothing.

OYARZABAL MISSES! I shouldn't laugh, but this is very funny. Ouyarzabal steps up like the captain he is and does a little hop and step, then blazes high and wide! In fairness, Henderson did well not to dive and that's the problem with that technique: if the keeper doesn't go, it's hard to generate power on the way down.

PENALTY TO SOCIEDAD! Januzaj weights a lovely ball in behind for Gorosabel, down the right of the box ... and James gets himself in a right two-an, crashing into him and giving the ref an easy call. Game on?

Bailly clips a clever ball over the top to meet the run of Fernandes, who watches the ball coming over his shoulder but can't connect properly with his shot. It would've been a brilliant goal, but he'd have expected himself to do better.

United knock it about while Real sit deep. They appear to have learnt the lesson of last week but I'm not sure how they didn't know it already. Maybe they backed themselves and realised they weren't as good as they thought they were.

I wonder if Bailly has any chance of starting at the weekend. He's a much better partner for both Lindelof and Maguire than they are for each other, plus the pace that makes that so means the team can play much higher. But he's always getting injured and his mistake looks sillier than those the other two make, so a conservative manager - and that's what Solskjaer is, at least at the moment - is likely to leave him out.

La Real have started well, but United have looked alright at the back.

But Munoz quickly wins another off Greenwood, who's getting better at defending. Ah, it's actually a throw, and is cleared out for another, deeper one.

Nice move from Real, spreading the ball left where Oyarzabal wins a corner off Fred. united get it away.

I'm a little surprised we're seeing Aaron Wan-Bissaka tonight - he plays a lot, is heavily reliant on pace and strength, and why was Brandon Williams given a contract then prevented from going on loan if not to play games like this? Similarly, what does Axel Tuanzebe have to do to get a game? You can only conclude Solskjaer doesn't rate him, or think he's ready, except he sonned off the best striker in the world not that long ago and without having started a game in a year.

Away we go!

Yet a further point on United's team selection: five subs are allowed in the Europa, so they can make lots of changes - at half-time if they can get a goal.
19:52
Tell you what, not many left in the draw will fancy a two-legger against Rangers. They've just whacked Antwerp 5-2, after winning the first leg 4-3.
19:48
Arsenal have won, but will need to defend a lot better than they did tonight if they're to get anywhere good in the competition.

Solskjaer tells BT that he wants to win the game and build momentum and belief. He explains his selection by saying that every United game is a big game so needs to be treated with respect. On the goalkeeping situation, he says he knows what De Gea can do and trusts Henderson, who he says is improving, "with everything". On Maguire, meanwhile, he says he's left out partly because he's on a card and partly because he's played almost every game.

I should embellish that Arsenal gaol with the note that Bukayo Saka has made both of Aubameyang's goals with beautiful crosses. He is an unbelievable player.

What a snap this is. Of Norman Whiteside and Clayton Blackmore, for those less ancient than me.
