The high-profile fixtures just keep on coming in this exceptional week of European football. And it doesn’t get much higher profile than Manchester United against AC Milan (although the fact this is a Thursday night game tells you quite a bit about the trajectory of both clubs’ recent fortunes). I’ll bring you team news and build up over the next hour, followed by live text commentary from 17:55.

End of 2nd Half
FT
It’s all over in Manchester and that equaliser was the last significant action of the night. Milan certainly deserve it after an excellent showing, but United will be kicking themselves for not defending that late corner better. That leaves the tie hanging in the balance ahead of the return leg in Italy in a week’s time. We’ll see you back here for that. Thanks for joining me, it’s been a blast.

GOOOAAALLL!!! Milan get the equaliser! Kjaer flicks on from a corner and it’s too powerful for Henderson to keep out. He’ll be very disappointed with that the keeper. 1-1!

There will be three minutes of added time. Can Milan grab the goal that their performance certainly deserves?

Kessie plays a delightful chipped pass over the United defence, but Leao can’t make contact with what would have been a spectacular volley and it remains 1-0.

Kessie has been outstanding tonight for Milan and is pushed right up in attack now as he tries to drag his team to the equaliser that they really need. It’s going to be a tough ask in the second leg if they go into it a goal down and with no away goal.

Krunic's free-kick effort is straight into the wall, but this is going to be the pattern of the remainder of the game, United camped right in their own half and Milan pushing for an away goal.

McTominay makes a clear foul on the edge of the box and it's a free-kick to Milan in a dangerous area, but somehow the United midfielder escapes a second booking. He's a very lucky boy.

Ten minutes remaining and the space has disappeared for Milan. Can they work out a way to unlock this packed United defence and give themselves something to work with in the second leg?
76'
Those changes seem designed to make United a lot more solid. Can they hold on and take this lead into the second leg?

Solskjaer makes a triple change of his own, with Fred, Williams and Shaw coming on.

The weather in Manchester has taken a biblical turn. The rain is absolutely teeming down and the wind is whipping around Old Trafford.

Daniel James is all alone at the far stick with the goal gaping, but he gets his feet in a muddle as Greenwood whips the ball across and he fires wide. That isn’t as bad a miss as Maguire’s, but it’s not a million miles away.

Will these fresh legs give Milan the impetus they need to find an equaliser? They've been good all night and can't really afford to leave Manchester without an away goal to show for their efforts.

Fernandes embraces Pioli on the touchline and there’s a bit of pushing and shoving. It’s all done in jest and the game goes on.

An inviting deep cross is met at the back post by Krunic, but he can’t keep his header down. That should have been the equaliser.

It's a much more evenly-balanced game since the break, but Milan are still looking dangerous whenever they get the ball into the final third. They really could do with an away goal at the very least now - taking a 1-0 deficit back to Italy would be a tricky position for the Italians to overcome.

Kessie has been excellent in midfield for Milan tonight and he tests Henderson with a shot from an angle. From the resulting corner there are some penalty appeals but nothing is doing.

United have been far better since the break, although that wasn’t hard in truth.

McTominay goes into the book for a needless and petulant kick out on Donnarumma to dislodge the ball just as the AC Milan keeper is about to roll it out.
