Good evening and welcome to live coverage of Olympiacos versus Arsenal in the first leg of this round of 32 tie in the Europa League. Teams to follow shortly.

Olympiacos might be out of the Champions League, but they did win their final game in the competition. Their 1-0 victory over Red Star Belgrade was effectively a play-off to qualify for this Europa League, settled by a late penalty from El-Arabi.

Olympiacos and Arsenal have faced each other eight times in European competition, all in the last 11 years, and have won four each. Bayern Munich are the only side Arsenal have faced more times in European competition.

Arsenal won Group F before Christmas, seeing off Eintracht Frankfurt, Standard Liege and Vitoria di Guimaraes. They also have unfinished business with this competition – last year they made it all the way to the final, only to suffer a numbing defeat to London rivals Chelsea in Baku.

Olympiacos have been parachuted into the Europa League after finishing third in their Champions League group behind Bayern Munich and Tottenham. They’ve slightly fallen from grace in the Greek Super League 1 in recent years – after an imperial phase of seven titles on the spin between 2010-17, they finished third in 2017-18 and second in 2018-19. As things stand they’re back on top though, mirroring Liverpool’s invincibility by remaining unbeaten through the first 24 games of the season.

There’s no Mesut Ozil in the Arsenal squad tonight, he’s been omitted for personal reasons. Matteo Guendouzi is back in the side now, after being dropped for the victory over Newcastle at the weekend.

Youseff El-Arabi is the main threat for Olympiacos in the lone striker role tonight. The Moroccan international has 22 goals in all competitions this season.
