SWISS LEAVE IT LATE TO SEE OFF ICELAND
Host nation Switzerland boosted their chances of progressing to the last 16 of Euro 2025 with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Iceland in Bern.
Having surrendered a one-goal lead to lose to Norway in their opening game, the Swiss needed a much-needed lift to kick-start their campaign in Group A.
It was turning out to be a frustrating night for the hosts at a sold-out Stadion Wankdorf until Geraldine Reuteler struck with under 15 minutes to play.
Substitute Alayah Pilgrim then doubled the advantage from a swift counter-attack in the 90th minute.
The result moves Switzerland into second place and sets up a crucial final group game with Finland, who currently occupy third.
Iceland, however, have been eliminated after defeat to Finland in their opening match.

SWISS FANS BELIEVE
To be fair to the Swiss fans, they have not lost faith in their team. The noise continues and if there is any nervous energy within the ground it is not emanating from the stands.
