ENGLAND REACH LAST FOUR ON SPOT KICKS AFTER FAMOUS COMEBACK
Holders England produced a dramatic recovery to beat Sweden on penalties and reach the last four at Euro 2025.
The Lionesses prevailed 3-2 in a thrilling shoot-out which saw the Swedes twice blow the chance to convert a winning spot kick.
England goalkeeper Hannah Hampton saved two penalties and Sweden missed three, while their goalkeeper Jennifer Falk – who fired one of her own over the crossbar – kept out four.
It concluded a tie to remember, which saw England hit back from 2-0 down at half-time to force extra-time and then penalties.
Indeed, Sarina Wiegman’s side were punished for a lacklustre first 45 minutes as Stina Blackstenius followed up Kosovare Asllani’s 50th goal for her country to put the Swedes firmly in charge at the break.
England, who were aiming to reach the last four at a major tournament for the sixth time in a row, huffed and puffed following the interval but eventually found a way back into it late in the day.
First, substitute Chloe Kelly crossed for Lucy Bronze to reduce the arrears 11 minutes from time. Less than two minutes later, another sub Michelle Agyemang fired home after Beth Mead nodded down Kelly's delivery.
Both sides had opportunities to win it in extra-time, but it eventually came down to penalties where a succession of saves and misses came to a climax when Bronze put England 3-2 up in sudden death, leading to Smilla Holmberg missing the target to send the Lionesses through.
England will now face Italy in the semi-finals in Geneva on Tuesday night.

REACTION AS ENGLAND SOMEHOW SURVIVE CRAZY SHOOT-OUT TO REACH LAST FOUR
Speaking on BBC Sport, former England midfielder, Fara Williams said: "Wow, I mean, in the end I didn't know which way it would go.
"It's disappointing for Sweden, letting your goalkeeper take the fifth penalty with a chance to win it..."
Ellen White added: "I'm absolutely exhausted and I wasn't even on the pitch. I'm very proud, the mentality of those players to step up..."
She added: "Lucy Bronze stepped up and smashed it into the net when we really needed someone to score.
"Full credit to England but obviously devastating for Sweden as they were in this game for so long."
