Germany 2-0 Poland: UEFA Women's Euro 2025 result as Lea Schueller and Jule Brand get campaign for ninth tournament trophy off to winning start

Germany started their campaign for a ninth European Championship trophy with a win over tournament debutants Poland.

If Germany, one of the tournament favourites, thought they would be given an easy ride, they might have been surprised by how well Poland defended during the first half, constantly frustrating the German attack.

Although Ewa Pajor looked threatening on occasion, she often found herself lonely in front of the goal, with little option but herself, and failed to break the deadlock.

Meanwhile, disaster struck for Germany after captain Giulia Gwinn was forced to leave the pitch in tears after picking up an injury.

Jule Brand eventually cut through the Polish defence in the 52nd minute, after firing the ball in the back of the net.

Brand also provided the assist in the 66th minute as Lea Schuller found herself on the edge of the box and nodded the ball in the back of the net to give Germany a two-goal lead and three points.

Poland might feel disappointed by the end result tonight with Germany taking all three points away. It’s an unbelievably tough group for them, but two have only  lost by two goals tonight is a real credit to their defensive work, and leaves something of a question mark over Germany’s strength in this tournament.

There's the whistle and Germany take the spoils this evening with a 2-0 win.

In the midst of that excitement, we missed a couple of substitutions for Poland, including Grabowska who replaced Pawollek, Tomasiak was also replaced by Krezyman.

Grabowska makes an immediate impact on the pitch, crossing the ball into Pajor. Berger makes a great save to deny them.

Kinga Szemik has had a pretty good night, all things considered. She's made some great saves tonight, even if her side are two goals down, now.

Germany must think they've gotten the job done now, as Dalman and Schueller are replaced.

Schueller finds herself in on the edge of the box where she takes receipt of the cross from Brand and nods it in the back of the net.

While Berger's relaxed mode nearly gifts the Poland side an equaliser, on the other side of the pitch balls are flying all over the shop as the German side records miss after miss. It's almost unbelievable.

Klara Buhl plays the ball to Nusken on the edge of the box, Nusken has a great opportunity as she gets her head to the ball at close range, but fails to place it in the goal. How?
