Filippa Angeldahl scored the winner as Sweden began their Euro 2025 campaign with a 1-0 over neighbours Denmark.
The talking point was a VAR check over a potential handball against Sweden's Madelen Janogy who was off balance as the ball appeared to hit her hand following a Denmark free-kick. After a wait of over four minutes, the referee said no penalty.
Sweden dominated possession but created few clear-cut chances. The best of them fell to Angeldahl with a free-kick from the edge of the box which was brilliantly tipped over by the keeper.
The Danes defended well and their best chance of the half fell to Pernille Harder who dinked an effort over.
Peter Gerhardsson's side broke the deadlock at the start of the second half when Kosovare Asllani found Angeldahl whose fierce low strike nestled in the bottom corner.
Denmark made substitutions including the introduction of 37-year-old Nadia Nadim and they came agonisingly close to an equaliser when Harder's long-range effort rattled the bar late on.
But Sweden, considered dark horses for the tournament, held on to begin their campaign with a victory.

SWEDEN HANG ON FOR NERVY VICTORY
It was a far cry from their 6-1 victory over Denmark in the UEFA Women's Nations League last month but Sweden will be pleased to begin their tournament with a win and a clean sheet.
They were not at their best with Stina Blackstenius, who scored a hat-trick against the Danes last month, largely isolated up front.
Filippa Angeldahl was a constant threat, playing in the pockets between the Danish defence and midfield, and it was little surprise that she ended up on the scoresheet.
For Denmark, there were plenty of positives like their defending and the performances of Pernille Harder and Emma Snerle in the second half, but they may feel Sweden were there for the taking.
