Rob Page: Wales boss to remain in charge for 'forthcoming campaign' despite failure to reach Euro 2024
Rob Page will not be sacked as Wales manager after their failure to reach Euro 2024. The Football Association of Wales have released a statement confirming the 49-year-old will remain at the helm as the Red Dragons begin their 2026 World Cup qualification campaign later this year. They missed out on a place in Germany after losing their play-off final to Poland on penalties.
The Welsh FA have confirmed they have no plans to part ways with manager Rob Page, despite his failure to qualify for Euro 2024.
The Red Dragons suffered a heartbreaking penalty shoot-out defeat to Poland in their play-off final on Tuesday.
That led to criticism of the manager, who had previously guided the nation to the Qatar 2022 World Cup, after which he signed a new four-year contract.
That deal will run until after the next edition of the tournament, which takes place across the United States, Mexico and Canada in 2026.
And the Football Association of Wales president Steve Williams says Page will be in charge as they attempt to qualify.
"The FAW can confirm Rob Page is their manager for the forthcoming campaign in accordance with his contract," said Williams.
"Rob is the manager. His contract runs to the end of the World Cup and that is how we continue to work."
Page first took charge of Wales in 2020, when he initially replaced Ryan Giggs on a temporary basis before getting the job permanently.
He was the helm as they reached the last-16 at Euro 2020, as well as their group stage elimination in Qatar.
"We've got games in June, we've got Nations League in the autumn and then start of a World Cup qualifying campaign," he said after last night's defeat to Poland.
"That's my full focus; on building on what we've already started and the transition which we're in at this moment in time.
"The board, the chief executive, the president, I think they see the journey we're on and what we're trying to do.
"In 12 months from retirement of senior players, to introducing some younger players and being one kick away from qualification, I think they see the work we're doing, and the supporters do."
Euro 2024 will be the first tournament Wales have missed the since 2018 World Cup in Russia.
