Euro 2024: Harry Kane 'wants to be remembered' by leading England to a first European Championship trophy

Harry Kane issued a rallying cry to his teammates ahead of their Euro 2024 opener against Serbia on Sunday night. The Three Lions skipper believes England have all the motivation they need to end a 58-year wait for a major trophy. The 30-year-old is his country's record goalscorer, but is still waiting to win what would be the first silverware of his career.

Harry Kane says the whole squad are eager to end England’s long wait for major tournament success ahead of their Euro 2024 opener against Serbia on Sunday night.
Gareth Southgate’s side begin their quest to end 58 years of hurt in Gelsenkirchen, and the Three Lions skipper insists that the only marker of success will be lifting the Henri Delaunay trophy on July 14.
England came closest to ending their drought when they were beaten on penalties by Italy in the delayed Euro 2020 final three years ago, and Kane believes that this squad are heading in the right direction.
"We all want to be remembered to have won a major tournament with England - not just to have had good campaigns," said Kane in an interview with the BBC.
"So we know it is something to respect and be proud of, and to keep pushing ourselves. If we don't win, we're going to be disappointed.
"As much as you can be unlucky and go out on penalties, we really want to win and start winning as a national team because we have been taking steps towards this moment. It is going to be tough, we know that, but we're ready for the challenge."

Following that near-miss in the final at Wembley, the Three Lions subsequently suffered a World Cup quarter-final elimination at the hands of France in Qatar – four years on from a run to the semi-finals at the 2018 finals in Russia.
Southgate is heading into his fourth major tournament as England boss, and feels cautiously optimistic heading into their clash with the Serbs.
When asked in his pre-match press conference if it could be his last tournament in charge, he replied: “I hate to put pressure on all the coaches, but it could be the last tournament for all of them. So this is the world we’re in.
“I’m probably more relaxed about it because I’ve been to three; I know exactly what it involves. I know the events you have to deal with, the path you have to navigate.
"I'm very fortunate to have great players with a great spirit and great staff that work with me.
"I'm determined to make sure we don't miss anything to give ourselves the very best opportunity."
