WILL RONALDO SURPASS PLATINI? Ronaldo has now equalled Michel Platini’s record of nine goals in the European Championships. He could move clear with a strike tonight - but he has never scored against France (234 minutes of play and counting).

DID YOU KNOW? This is Portugal’s second major tournament final after Euro 2004 which they lost against Greece (0-1) – however, it’s their first final outside Portugal. In the 2004 showpiece, they conceded from Greece’s only shot on target in the whole game.

What are the major talking points heading into the final? Here are four things to ponder as we approach kick off...

Will it be Ronaldo's night? Here's what the Real Madrid superstar told Euro2016.com: "They are, in my opinion, favourites because they are playing at home and that's a big advantage. The whole country is going to support them, but it's a final and anything can happen. We're going to be prepared and we're going to be difficult to beat. Since the tournament started nobody has beaten us, and I hope France aren't going to beat us either.... [On the idea of lifting a major trophy with Portugal] It's something that I always dreamed of. It would be a huge achievement if I could win something with Portugal."

Great quotes from Fernando Santos, Portugal: "I'm ugly by nature and I don't mind if I'm even uglier. I judge my team by whether we play well or badly, not by whether we are pretty or ugly... At some point they will have to say that Portugal had the merit of dismantling our opponents. They keep saying that merits belong not to Portugal but our opponents such as Iceland. Portugal always have a game plan, an attacking game plan and a defensive game plan. We know we aren't the best in the world, but we also know that it will be difficult for anyone to beat us. We have been an excellent team on the pitch who are sometimes pleasant to watch and sometimes less pleasant to watch. Portugal have done what we have to do, without worrying whether we have been pretty or ugly but instead worrying about whether we have been good or bad."

Didier Deschamps, France: "When I accepted this job, it was not just to take part, it was to live moments like this one. The best place is on the pitch. There is a certain frustration at not being on it with my boots on but I can't do that anymore.... It's an exceptional moment because there's a title at stake but you must not think too much about it. What you need to do is approach it as relaxed as possible while being at the same time totally focused on the match."
