The former England captain said he wanted his children to play for enjoyment and not constantly compare themselves to him.
“One of my boys turned around to me the other day, he said, 'Daddy, you know, I'm not sure I want to play football all the time,” Beckham told ABC News.
“It broke my heart a little bit. He said, 'Every time that I step onto the field, I know people are saying, you know, 'This is David Beckham's son,' and if I'm not as good as you, then it's not good enough.'
“I said, 'Okay, stop right there... You play because you want to play.”
It was not revealed which of his sons (Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz) he was referring to.
Brooklyn was promoted into the Arsenal U18 squad earlier in 2015 aged just 15, with Romeo also featuring in Arsenal's academy. Beckham's four-year-old daughter Harper has also reportedly expressed an interest in playing football.
