Well, that wasn't a particularly easy evening for Real Madrid. Bale made the difference coming off the bench, with the Spanish and European champions doing just enough to progress to the next round, but Fuenlabrada were more than a match for their hosts. They could have won this tie on aggregate. They really could have. Real gave up so many chances.

Fuenlabrada deserve a huge amount of credit for the way they have played this game. They could have levelled things up in the first half and even at the start of the second half.

Real Madrid, at last, are now doing a good job of seeing this game out. This is what we should have seen in the first half, but there was a real lack of composure. They have that now.

That's a strange decision from Diaz. He kicks out at Ceballos, with the referee showing him a yellow card.

Of course, Real Madrid will be involved in the Club World Cup in the coming few weeks. That means they will have to postpone of their Liga fixtures. That will benefit Barcelona.

This is a real critical point of the season for Real Madrid. They need to start clawing back the gap on Barcelona and they can't allow the Catalans to stretch their lead ahead of the Clasico.

This will go down as a missed opportunity for Theo. The full back has struggled to make an impression since joining from Atletico Madrid in the summer. There's a lot of pressure on him.

These games can be awkward for the bigger teams, but Real Madrid have made this tougher than it needed to be. It's only after the hour mark that they have really taken a grip.

You get the feeling that Bale will be a hugely important figure for Real Madrid for the rest of the season. The Welsh winger could bring the spark that Zidane's side have lacked in recent weeks.

This scoreline is hard on Fuenlabrada. They have been exceptional. They will rue their missd opportunities at the start of the second half. They could have been level. Genuinely.

Bale's relationship with the Real Madrid support is a really strange one. His quality cannot be doubted, but there's something about that the fans generally just can't take to. Strange.

If it wasn't already settled before, it is now. Real Madrid have got away with one here. They were distinctly secodn best in the first half and at the start of the second half as well.
