IMPRESSIVE CITY DISPATCH JUVENTUS TO CRUISE INTO KNOCKOUT STAGE
Manchester City made it three wins from three to top Group G at the FIFA Club World Cup in emphatic fashion, hammering Juventus 5-2 in Orlando.
City were boosted by the inclusion of key midfielder Rodri in the starting XI, making his first start for the club since September 2024, and City’s positive vibes only increased when they took an early lead through Jeremy Doku’s curling shot after great work by summer signing Rayan Ait-Nouri.
Juventus were denied possession for much of the game, but equalised just two minutes later thanks to a rare mislaid pass by City goalkeeper Ederson, who gifted Teun Koopmeiners with a free shot on goal on 12 minutes.
But it was City who were the better side throughout the match, and they retook the lead thanks to a Pierre Kalulu own goal, turning a low cross into his own net to give the English side a 2-1 half-time lead.
City’s quality shone through in the second half as the game opened up, with substitutes Erling Haaland and Phil Foden making the game safe, before Savinho added gloss to the scoreline with a thunderous strike from outside the box.
And while Juve grabbed a consolation through the hard-working Dusan Vlahovic, they were comprehensively outplayed to finish as Group G runners-up, meaning they will face the winners of Group H in the next round.
City will play the second-placed team in that group, and on this evidence they will fancy their chances of going all the way in this competition.

DOKU IS THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Jeremy Doku has been voted the Player of the Match, and probably deservedly too. He had Juventus’ packed defence on toast, playing with energy and incisiveness that the Italian side couldn’t handle. It was Doku who got the ball rolling for City too, finishing expertly to open the scoring.

CITY AND JUVE AWAIT THEIR ROUND-OF-16 OPPONENTS
This win for City sends them through as the winners of Group G with three wins from three, with Juventus progressing to the knockout stage as runners up. Neither club knows their round-of-16 opponents just yet, with those coming from Group H, which will bring the curtain down on the Club World Cup group stage when they play their last matchday later on today. Real Madrid and RB Salzburg are currently the top two in that group on four points apiece, and they face each other in their last group game. Al-Hilal are two points back and could yet snatch a knockout spot if results go their way. The winner of Group H will play Juventus in the next round, with the runners-up to face City.

FULL-TIME: RUTHLESS CITY BEAT JUVENTUS
The final whistle goes and Man City celebrate a comprehensive win that sends them through to the next round with a 100% record in this competition. Juventus knew they were through as well, regardless of this result, but will need to sharpen up in the knockouts if they want to stay in the tournament much longer.

CHERKI SHOULD SCORE
Haaland unselfishly tees up Cherki in the box, with the recent arrival from Lyon presented with an unmarked opportunity inside the box… but he gets the ball stuck under his feet a little and curls his effort too close to the goalkeeper. He really should have scored that and his reaction says he knows it.

THE CLOCK TICKS DOWN IN ORLANDO
A Mexican Wave works its way around the stands in Orlando as the fans make the most of their final few minutes of gametime. They’re enjoying themselves for sure, and it also says a lot about the state of the game out on the pitch, with both teams easing towards full-time.

GOAL! JUVENTUS 2-5 MANCHESTER CITY (VLAHOVIC)
Juventus have one back and it’s a clinical finish from Vlahovic, tucked into the bottom corner after the Juve striker was picked out by a lovely Yildiz through-ball. It’s not going to be enough, but Vlahovic needed that after working hard without reward throughout this game.

OVER THE BAR
Vlahovic is played clean through, but Dias does well to get back and hold up the Juve striker, denying him a shooting opportunity. He squares the ball to Yildiz instead, who sprays his effort into the stands.

COOLING BREAK
The players head to the sidelines for a drink in these hot temperatures, although two of City’s players are unlikely to need it, with Cherki and O’Reilly only just having come on.

GOAL! JUVENTUS 1-5 MANCHESTER CITY (SAVINHO)
Wow! Now that is the pick of the goals, no doubt about it. Haaland thinks he’s scored with a close-range effort that is saved by the feet of the keeper, but the clearance falls to Savinho outside the box, who leathers in a monster of a shot that cannons into the back of the net off the underside of the bar. That’s a beauty.

ANOTHER CHANCE FOR CITY
City keep on coming, and the ball breaks for Haaland in the box, whose shot is turned behind for a corner.

GOAL! JUVENTUS 1-4 MANCHESTER CITY (FODEN)
That is ruthless from City. Haaland pulls down a long pass from Ederson with a glorious first touch. He tries to play in Foden in the box, slightly overhitting his threaded through ball, but it breaks to Savinho, who cuts back across the box to make room for the shot, where he and Foden have a choice of who tucks it into an empty net, with the England international taking the opportunity. The pair celebrate together. 4-1.

GREAT SAVE BY EDERSON
Vlahovic is played clean through, but Ederson almost gets to the ball first and pulls off a reaction save as the Juve striker tries to dink the ball past him.

EARLY SIGHTER FOR YILDIZ
The exciting Turkish youngster takes his chance to get a shot away moments after coming on, but sends his effort wide. That’s already an injection of pace into Juve’s play though, which they’ve been crying out for.
