Inter Miami 2-1 FC Porto: Lionel Messi scores sublime match-winning free-kick as host club come from behind to record first win at FIFA Club World Cup

Lionel Messi produced a moment of magic to complete a second-half comeback as Inter Miami beat FC Porto 2-1 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Messi’s piece of brilliance came after he won a foul on the edge of the box when attempting a one-two with Luis Suarez, with the Argentine legend stepping up to take the set-piece and whip it into the corner of the goal.

Porto had been the better side in the first half, and could have gone in at the break with more than just their one-goal advantage thanks to a penalty from Samuel Omorodion Aghehowa.

But Inter Miami were transformed after the interval and equalised almost immediately through a terrific finish from impressive Ecuadorian midfielder Telasco Segovia.

And Messi completed the comeback, putting Inter Miami into a strong position in Group A. His side sit level on four points with Palmeiras atop the group, who they face on Tuesday morning, with a spot in the knockout stages on the line.

Samu glances a header towards the Inter Miami goal and sees his effort slide narrowly wide. Porto are getting closer and closer to the equaliser.

William Gomes has been excellent since coming on and wins a free-kick in a dangerous area. Inter Miami defend it, but the ball touches a pink-shirted player last and it’s a corner, with the pressure continuing to build.

Inter Miami get in a mess at the back and it nearly presents a golden chance to William, but it doesn’t quite sit for him and Ustari makes the save.

Varela is replaced by William Gomes for Porto.

Porto have found a second wind and a deep cross is headed towards goal, where Ustari does well to make a save and keep the ball in play.
