Cristian Chivu has been named as Simone Inzaghi's successor at the San Siro, signing a contract to become Inter head coach until the summer of 2027. Having played for the Nerazzurri 169 times during his playing career between 2007-13, Chivu returns to the Serie A and UEFA Champions League runners-up ahead of their Club World Cup opener against Monterrey on June 18.

Inter have appointed Parma head coach Cristian Chivu as Simone Inzaghi's successor in the dug-out on a two-year contract.
Chivu, formerly a defender for the Nerazzurri where he represented the club on 169 occasions, enters just his second head coaching role following the departure of Inzaghi to Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal.
Former Romania international Chivu worked in coaching roles with Inter's youth sides for nearly seven years before he was appointed as Parma's new manager in February.
Then placed 18th - the Serie A's final relegation spot - Chivu lifted the side two places and five points clear of the drop, winning three and drawing seven of his 13 matches in charge.
Inter secured the appointment nine days ahead of their opening Club World Cup match against Liga MX side Monterrey. They will also face Japanese outfit Urawa Red Diamonds and Argentinian side River Plate in their group stage, Chivu's first three matches in charge.
The newly-appointed head coach won three Serie A titles with Inter as a defender, while also securing a treble with the club under Jose Mourinho in 2010. He played 142 times for Ajax in his early career before making 124 appearances for Roma.
