The Brazilian winger played the full 90 minutes in Madrid's 3-0 victory over Leganes in La Liga on Sunday, but has not been included in the squad to travel to Merseyside.
Carlo Ancelotti's side are currently 18th in the 36-team Champions League table and face a Liverpool side yet to drop a point in the competition.
Real Madrid said in a statement on Monday: "Following the tests carried out today on our player Vini Jr. by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the femoral biceps of his left leg."
Shortly after, the club shared their 19-man squad set to make the trip to Anfield, confirming the 24-year-old's absence from the group.
The winger also took to social media following the news of his injury to say: "Crazy calendar. Time to recover."

So far this campaign, the Brazilian has outshone summer signing Kylian Mbappe, who may now be deployed in his preferred left-wing position in Vinicius' absence.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has been widely linked with a summer move to Carlo Ancelotti's side, is also unlikely to feature in Wednesday's European tie.
The full-back has also been sidelined with a hamstring injury, which ruled him out of Liverpool's 3-2 win over Southampton on Sunday.
