KANE BAGS BRACE AS BAYERN CRUSH 10-MAN LEVERKUSEN
Harry Kane scored a brace as Bayern Munich thumped the 10 men of Bayer Leverkusen at Allianz Arena in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 tie.
The Englishman opened the scoring in the all-German clash after just nine minutes as he powered home a wonderful header from Michael Olise’s cross from the right.
Vincent Kompany’s men dominated proceedings, but it wasn’t until the second half when they found their second as Jamal Musiala prodded home from a couple of yards after Matej Kovar spilt a routine cross into the box.
Things shortly went from bad to worse for Xabi Alonso’s men as Nordi Mukiele was shown a second yellow card for scraping his studs down the back of Kingsley Coman’s leg.
Leverkusen’s second-half capitulation continued when substitute Edmond Tapsoba hauled Kane to the ground from a corner, and Michael Oliver pointed to the spot following a check of the pitchside monitor.
It was Bayern's No. 9 who stepped up, and he found the top-right corner with his spot-kick to take his tally to nine goals in the Champions League this season.
It could have got even worse for Leverkusen in stoppage time as Joao Palhinha grazed the crossbar with an empty net to aim into after being teed up by Musiala, following a fabulous piece of skill to flick the ball over Mario Hermoso’s head inside the area.
Victory sees Bayern get the better of Leverkusen for the first time in seven attempts since Alonso took charge, while Kompany’s men also extended their unbeaten run across all competitions to 10 games.
Before the sides reconvene for the second leg next Tuesday, Bayern will look to extend their eight-point lead over Leverkusen in the Bundesliga as they host Bochum on the weekend while Alonso’s men entertain Werder Bremen.

BAYERN WITH ONE FOOT IN QUARTERS
Bayern Munich will feel they have one foot in the quarter-finals as they take a 3-0 lead into the second leg of their last 16 tie with Bayer Leverkusen.
The victory sees them beat Bayer Leverkusen for the first time in seven attempts since Xabi Alonso has been at the helm for the visitors. It also sees them extend their unbeaten run across all competitions to 10 games.
Up next for Vincent Kompany's men is a home tie against Bochum as they look to extend their lead at the top of the Bundesliga, before they aim to wrap this last-16 tie up when they travel to BayArena next Tuesday.
As for Leverkusen, they have a mountain of a task to keep their UEFA Champions League hopes alive this season.
Defeat for Alonso's men sees their unbeaten run of eight games across all competitions come to an end.
The reigning Bundesliga champions will look to get back to winning ways as they host Werder Bremen on the weekend before that second leg, three days later.

FULL TIME: BAYERN MUNICH 3-0 BAYER LEVERKUSEN
That miss from Palhinha is the last meaningful action as the full-time whistle blows on a huge victory for Bayern Munich and Vincent Kompany as they finally get the better of Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen and take a healthy advantage into the second leg.

PALHINHA MISSES SITTER
Wow... what a piece of skill from Musiala and what a miss from Palhinha. The ball is played into Musiala in the area with his back to goal but he flicks the ball over the defender's head with the outside of his boot before squaring the ball to Palinha.
The midfielder unforgivably misses the target though with an empty net to aim into as his effort grazes the bar.

UPAMECANO WASTES CHANCE
Olise slips Stanisic, who looks offside, into the right of the box but his low ball across the six-yard box is cut out and deflects behind for a corner.
Upamecano gets his head to the set-piece but generates no power whatsoever and it's easy work for Kovar.

INTO STOPPAGE TIME
There will be six minutes of time added on the end of this one as Kimmich sees a curling effort from the edge of the box sail into the arms of Kovar.
Bayern are really pushing for more here, they know the importance of capitalising on this extra man ahead of the away tie, which will be a completely different proposition.

SANE INCHES WIDE FROM BAYERN FOURTH
A final change from Alonso as Buendia, on loan from Aston Villa, replaces Grimaldo.
Sane then goes on a fabulous driving run into the box from the left but his right-footed effort whistles wide of the top right corner. A massive chance for four!
Another couple of changes from Kompany as Dier and Palhinha replace Kim and Goretzka.

HOSTS WANT FOUR
Olise and Sane both have the beating of their full-backs on the outside and both deliver dangerous crosses into the box but Leverkusen manage to cope.
The camera pans to Wirtz and Frimpong on the Leverkusen bench, with both cutting extremely frustrated figures.

TRIPLE-CHANGE FROM ALONSO
Alonso is making three changes now with Schick, Garcia and Arthur coming on for Wirtz, who is not happy about coming off as he slams the ball into the ground, Xhaka and Frimpong.

LEVERKUSEN PLAYING WITH FIRE
Tah was booked in the build-up to that penalty for his protestations it seems. Another one on thin ice for these closing stages.
Kovar is playing with fire in the Leverkusen goal as he chops past Kane, not once but twice, but he gets away with it and manages to clear.

GOAL! BAYERN MUNICH 3-0 BAYER LEVERKUSEN (KANE)
Harry Kane steps up and after a stuttering run-up, he fires his penalty into the top right corner. A wonderful spot-kick - was there any doubt? That's nine goals for the Englishman in Europe this season.
73'
PENALTY FOR BAYERN
Leverkusen clear the corner but there is going to be a VAR check for a penalty for a challenge from Tapsoba on Kane as the ball came in.
Replays show he had his arms wrapped around the striker, and after checking the monitor, Michael Oliver points to the spot and gives the defender a yellow card.

BAYERN PRESSING FOR MORE
Kimmich nonchalantly sprays a pass out to Olise in the right of the box. The winger cuts his way across the face of the area before letting fly but his low, driven effort is straight at Kovar.
Sane's cross from the left is fairly tame but Hincapie is uncomfortable in dealing with it at the back post and gives up the corner.
69'
CHANGES ALL ROUND
Some more changes for Bayern now as Coman and Laimer make way in place of Sane and Stanisic. A change too for the visitors as defender Tapsoba comes on for forward Adli.
66'
DAMAGE LIMITATION FOR LEVERKUSEN
It's looking like Frimpong is going to slot in at right-back for now. Can Leverkusen keep it at two in the remaining 25 minutes? They have really shot themselves in the foot since half-time.
Bayern's young keeper Urbig is getting a huge cheer every time he completes a pass. Big shoes to fill with Neuer going off but he has started well.
62'
RED CARD! MUKIELE GIVEN SECOND YELLOW
Things go from bad to worse for Leverkusen. Mukiele, who picked up a booking in the opening period, scrapes his studs down the back of Coman's leg as the Bayern winger holds the ball up and he is given a second yellow.
It could have been a straight red in all honesty. I think there was actually a VAR check for whether it could have been but it stays as two yellows. Alonso is fuming.
