Real Madrid are ready to take on defending champions Manchester City in their monumental UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg on Wednesday, and head coach Carlo Ancelotti knows the importance of the clash. The Italian has spoken to TNT Sports about the pressure of the encounter and how he and his players dealt with losing to Pep Guardiola's side in the same competition last season.

‘Never spoke about it’ – Ancelotti admits Real ‘try to forget’ 2023 humbling by Man City

Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that he and his Real Madrid players "have never spoken about the defeat last year" against Manchester City as they prepare for their latest clash in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday evening.
Pep Guardiola's side clinched the title as part of their remarkable treble-winning campaign with the victory over Real Madrid proving crucial along the way, and they will be aiming to replicate the achievement a year later.
For Ancelotti, who was speaking to TNT Sports ahead of the second leg of their quarter-final with the English and European champions, it is all about focusing on the present and what they can do to avenge the defeat.
"We have never spoken about the defeat last year, never; we have tried to forget," Ancelotti told TNT Sports.
"We have tried to forget because I think it was not Real Madrid at the time."
Reflecting on Real Madrid's incredible record of reaching the Champions League semi-finals for 11 of the last 13 seasons, he was asked if that feat would ever be replicated.
"It is really difficult to say," he pondered. "What Real Madrid have done in the last 10 years in the Champions League, winning five trophies, it is really difficult to reach and to achieve.
"We would like to stay in this competition and be at the top also in the future.
"This is a really special competition for us - the most important competition. We want to compete and try to win every time, this is the history of this club.
"It is a great responsibility, but a great opportunity to show what Real Madrid did and continue to do in this competition."

Turning his attention to Wednesday's huge second leg against City, he was clear about what his players would need to do in order to defeat the defending champions away from home.
"It will be entertaining and exciting for all the fans. Every game has its own history and it will be really exciting, like the last games we have played.
"We have to try to compete and to fight, to play well with the ball and use our quality, also to defend. It has to be a complete game because Manchester City have the kind of quality that we have.
"We have to try to be focused and compete and do the good things that we did in the first leg."
