PSV Eindhoven 1-1 Arsenal: Champions League knockout stage beckons for Mikel Arteta's side after dead rubber

Arsenal signed off their Group B campaign in the UEFA Champions League with a 1-1 draw against PSV Eindhoven. The Gunners were already through to the last 16 as group winners, with Mikel Arteta choosing to give a number of fringe players a chance, including goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. Eddie Nketiah's smart finish was cancelled out by Yorbe Vertessen as the points were shared.

Highlights: Nketiah on target but Arsenal held in Eindhoven

Eddie Nketiah scored his first UEFA Champions League goal as a much-changed Arsenal drew 1-1 at PSV Eindhoven.
Nketiah's well-taken goal - firing into the bottom corner when picked out at the top of the box by Reiss Nelson - gave Arsenal a half-time lead against the run of play.
PSV equalised within five minutes of the restart, with Yorbe Vertessen curling in off the post to cap a crisp counter-attack. Like Nketiah before him, it was Vertessen's first goal in the competition.
Both teams hit the post - PSV twice, Arsenal once - while the Gunners also had a goal disallowed for offside in an open affair both sides had the opportunity to win.
Leandro Trossard almost won it for Arsenal in the seventh minute of stoppage time, but shot straight at the goalkeeper after fooling his marker with a wicked feint.
There was nothing riding on the result, with Arsenal already assured of top spot in Group B and PSV knowing they would finish second. Both teams avoiding picking up any cards, although one worry for Arsenal is that Mohamed Elneny did leave the field with an apparent hamstring issue.

Talking point - Arsenal understudies pass audition

Mikel Arteta made eight changes, so to see this Arsenal side emerge with a point must be satisfying and offers an endorsement of the Gunners' strength in depth. PSV had won five in a row at home in all competitions and have failed to win just once all season at Philips Stadion.
Nketiah's excellent goal underlined his ability in front of goal, while fringe players such as Cedric Soares and Mohamed Elneny were very competent despite their lack of playing time. Aaron Ramsdale - the much-discussed Ramsdale - had a quiet game between the sticks in a good way.

Player of the match - Johan Bakayoko (PSV)

The 20-year-old demonstrated why he has so many suitors, terrorising Jakub Kiwior who was the only Arsenal understudy to really struggle. As well as the eye-catching one-v-one ability, Bakayoko showed off impressive crossing and twice created great opportunities for team-mates.

Match highlights

6' CHANCE! Bakayoko is released on the right through an excellent Tillman pass. His first-time cross looks for Van Aanholt, but Saliba gets their first, however the ricochet falls straight to Pepi - eight yards out. He shoots, Gabriel blocks well.
29' OFF THE POST! Elneny sees space before him, so drives towards the PSV goal and lets fly. The low shot skips off the surface and hits the outside of the post.
42' GOAL! PSV 0-1 Arsenal (Nkeitah): Nelson picks out Nketiah at the top of the box and the striker takes one touch to set the ball, then buries it into the bottom corner with his next touch. That's an excellent finish and Arsenal lead out of nowhere!

50' GOAL! PSV 1-1 Arsenal (Vertessen): Pepi makes a smart run between Arsenal's two centre-halves and is picked out, then lays the ball off to Vertessen who curls a shot in off the post. A well-worked and deserved equaliser.
66' OFF THE POST! Saibari gets the better of Rice - who is playing centre-back - and sees a deflected shot come back off the post.
90+7' SAVE! Trossard gets on the end of a flick-on, fools Ramhalo with a feint but then shoots straight at Benitez. Kiwior smashes over on the rebound.
